The Official "RFC Coaching Position" Discussion Thread

Doubt it,we are good at long winded processes
No we're not, we're good at band aid fixes and holding things together with duct tape.
We are not good at fixing things properly, a long winded process may be the first sign of us turning that around

If there is any truth to the rumour that Richmond is Hardwicks preferred option, then you would suggest even if North offer him the job he will make them wait, until he knows where he stands at Richmond, that shouldn't be too long given we only have 2 to interview, or as some might suggest 1 real interview, and the committee no doubt would then give Hardwick some indication on whether he is the man or not.

I'm pretty sure his management would be earning their money on this one and advising him he is in the box seat regardless of what North want or demand. They certainly bent to Buckleys demands and no reason why they would change if hardwicks the man they want.

the other side maybe too that we have pretty much decided Hardwick is unlikely to win the main job or already Richardson has surpassed him and we it will depend on how Hinkley performs.

I don't know if I am excited about any of the remaining 4 prospective RFC coaches.

Maybe it is because I have lost faith in the club and do not see that changing one position - albeit the head coach - will actually shift Richmond out of its celler dweller results.

I get this nagging thought that it is just not the head coach that needs changing - I think the whole club from the supporters through to the board needs a bloody good shake-up or restructure or whatever modern corporate term is flavour of the month.

We seem to grab hold of an idea (THE PROCESS) and say yes yes yes that's it - all run off and do it - and at round 22 next year we finish with a similar result.

I'm not looking for a quick fix (if I was I would have given up by now as it is 27 years this year since our last Grand Final appearance) but I am looking for a more holistic approach which does not seem to be happening. Then again it could be happening but it has not been communicated to me as a member.

I don't know anymore - I feel a bit flat about the whole situation - almost at the stage of saying - yeah I am a paid up Tiger Member but not really a practising member.

Once upon a time I would devour any news about Richmond - these days I still read most of it but the passion flame is down to a candle in the wind..............

Sad to read Remote, cheer up mate. I honestly feel that things are really building positively at the club for the first time, I think we've all had plenty of downer moments and pushed through, (like you obviously have) due to our love of the club. As they say, true love is blind. We've never fully reconciled with the fact we are dating Elmer McFudd's daughter.

I honestly believe she's developed into a Megan Gale look a like now, so cheer up, watch some highlights of the Chimp and enjoy the ride back to the top mate!

Oh and stop listening to Elton John, that will instantly improve your mood!

Understand where you're coming from, but often through life when things seem at their lowest you get an unexpected spike that puts things on the up again. Have faith.

Also, be careful what you wish for - it doesn't always work out for the best. I was one who wished like mad that Wallace would take us on back in late 2004. What a c@ck up that was! I would be happy with Alan Richardson if Hardwick pulled out.

I'm happy enough with the process but frustrated with how long it takes to get each interview organised. FFS Rawlings has just done the one brief interview so far. He could do his final one during his lunchbreak.

If Hardwick was interviewed Monday night why couldn't Hinkley have done his on Tuesday? Or Wednesday? Or Thursday?

Yeah Cheer up remote. We've injected 13 new people into the Footy department, go rid of Miller who thought he owned the footy Department, Benny Gales on board, Gary March has done a good job, new faces in key areas, expanded recruiting staff, it definitely looking up. There is also no doubt that the coach will bring new faces in as well. Apparently Hardwick has already indicated he will bring in some new fitness and conditioning people. Onwards and upwards.

Just want to hear who the coach is so we can get on with it.

Hardwick, Hinkley and Richardson are involved in coaching other clubs therefore the most suitable times for interviews would be early week. Anything from Wednesday onwards these guys would be concentrating soley on their current form of employment.

Not sure Clarkson or Thompson would be too happy in their assistants attending interviews on the eve of vital matches for their respective clubs.

GT you seems to be in the know. What are you hearing around the traps? Is Hardwick going to wait until we have finished with our process before making a decision?

I suspect this could be a strong possibility. Lets face it Hardwick has been installed the favourite at both clubs by the media, not the club(s). CC and the boys aren't idioits and will know who the front runner is and have a good idea who they want by now.

So what if Hardwick goes to north it will mean he was not the man for the job and we will have the coach that is best for the RFC.

I'd be very happy with Hinkley, Richardson or Hardwick.

You can add Nathan Burke to the list of Hardwick fans. He sat on the Melbourne committee that appointed Bailey and has seen Hardwick present. He had Hardwick as his next preferred candidate after Bailey when he put in his vote.

Considering how bailey is going that doesn't fill me with any confidence???

would of sounded better if Bourke had hardwick in front of Bailey.

Look, if the Kangas make Hardwick an offer, what happens next?

Hardwick will need to "think about it" say over he weekend. He won't sign up on the spot, he'll have questions, he'll have to consult with his wife and family and he needs to sort out what Hawthorn are going to do if he is appointed coach of a rival team (basically say there's the door, nick off now") but he needs to hear this before making a decision. What if HAwthorn insist that he coaches them until their season ends? They won't but they might.

Then he will go to Richmond and say: "Guess what?"

They will then decide what happens next. If they say, "Take the NM job," then that means that he wasn't going to win the Richmond job anyway, everyone is just being open with each other, go with our blessing. If they want ot give him the job and he wants it, then Hardwick and RFC will stall and NM will push for a quick decision. Richmond may still want to interview Rawlings for other reasons than appointing him senior coach and HArdwick may well want him as an assistant so they will not be disrespectful.

If all Richmond can do is guarantee that Hardwick is down to the last two, and that is not enough for him, then that's fine too. He'll be wearing a Royal Blue and white polo top next year.

It'll just play out to a resolution. Basically, Hardwick will have two jobs and he will choose from them. Or, he has one job and he will take it.

Hah if you only knew Smokin'. Plenty of people will happily tell you I know nothing, and their pretty right. ;D

I certainly have no inside word on any of this, but just looking at it rationally, in that Hardwick has pretty much said he prefers the Tigers option, and you would think he will make sure he explores all his options before he accepts the North Job.

and no matter what happens, the Tigers will be blasted.

If Hardwick joins the Kangas, people will be claiming we were too slow and lost the best man.
If Hardwick joins us there will be others (and maybe some of the same) who will say we rushed to a conclusion because we were scared of losing Hardwick.

BTW, am I the only one who loves the very careful way our brethren in the media choose their words to describe this situation? Here are a couple of classics:

North Melbourne is expected to offer their coaching job to Damien Hardwick “within days”.

Richmond will make their decision “later in the year.”

Both could mean next week and most likely do.

Yep the power of Journalism. And they think they are fooling some people.

Sheehan has the sad because Benny didn't bend over and he can't live with the rejection.

Prety hard to judge Bailey accurately or fairly considering he has no cattle.

The only reason Burke chose Bailey over Hardwick is because (this was a couple of years ago keep in mind) he felt he needed a couple of more years experience/polish and Bailey had coached his own side.

They were looking for someone with some savvy as a spokesperson as well and Burke felt Bailey edged in front due to Hardwick needing a couple more years experience.

He said Hardwick's presentation was very impressive.

Pretty much on the money. If Hardwick is offerred the NM job (by a bunch of desparates btw) then he either grabs the oportunity and accepts. Fine. See you later. Or, he approaches Richmond to seek his position. R
Richmond either fast track the process if he's the priority candidate and anounce him as coach, or they tell him to take what he can get. Simple.

I know I'm biased, but FFS why would anyone want to coach a team with no money, no supporters, no future?
