The Official "RFC Coaching Position" Discussion Thread

Is anyone else worried that there's too much fanfare around Hardwick at the moment?

the managers will be working the media to pump up the tyres of their candidate, its only natural

this is why "the process" is good, looks past the media fluff we all grasp onto and reviews the candidates for the details that matter

To be honest, this media flood of Hardwick is starting to turn me off him. I'm wary os coaches who the media like.

I'd be very happy to hear we felt Hinkley was our man.

My concern with Hinkley is it's easy to be a good tactician when you have very good players to carry out the instructions. What we need is someone who has got the character to build a complete list. It may well be Hinkley, don't know.

The only think with Hinkley is if he wants to stay at Geelong as Thompson's successor. There's been rumours that Costa has been in his ear already.
Now this sounds like the Ayers following Blighty scenario of a few years back, first at the Cats and then the Crows.
I wonder how many other fools are only to happy to fall into this trap?
Figgy to follow MnM after Scumwood has played finals for four or five years in a row, just in time for the list to slide or at least need a mini rebuild.
Longmire to follow Roos after the Swans have played back to back grannies and seven consecutive years of finals, already into a major list rebuild.
If Hinkley was stupid enough to follow Bomber at the Cats after they have played finals in 04-05 oops in 06 back to back grannies in 07-08 maybe 09 and whatever in 2010 then he would be deserving of whatever failure comes his way.
When properly managed with the drafting and cap restrictions enforced by the AFL, clubs get a certain period of list maturity and balance which allows them to attack a finals window and attempt some premierships.
To take over a list that is past its prime and battered from the extra workload of an extra seasons footy during repeat finals campaigns is foolish in the extreme.
The art to successfull coaching is to find a promising young squad with the full backing of a stable board / management group and develop the suitcase out of it.
Our squad may be barely promising when you take the old geezers out of it but whoever the new coach is will be able to stamp his autograph all over it.
Due to lack of funds, recruiting / development staff and a genuine desire to rebuild the entire list Plough and Miller failed to exceed mediocrity.
There's more funds, recruiters, developers, senior management ( hopefully with a decent plan ) available for the new coach to tap into so the perfect opportunity awaits for the new coach to accept the challenge.
So far there's nothing but good reports on the four second round candidates. If one of them wants to take the quick exit to the Kangas or stay cosy at the Cats for leftovers.................. enjoy.
We'll still get a quality contender who has the character to challenge the poisoned chalice and perhaps stamp himself into footy folklore.

Good call Maso. All the indications of late seem the Tigers board is stable and with the addition of Benny Gale as CEO, maybe the time has come for this football club to shed it's so-called "culture" of the past 3 decades.

Ha, I've been saying exactly the same thing every day since the North/Richmond processes started.

Actually, that's being kind. I don't think for a second North have a process and I very much suspect this is going to be a bullet in the neck for Brayshaw and his board.

Ah well maybe one of his missing white knights will come to his rescue. ::)

+1

For the Kangas, if you agree to make James Brayshaw your friend on Facebook, you have passed the interview and will be offered the job. So far even Jame's mum has knocked him back

good post and i agree.

Call it gut feeling but I reckon Alan Richardson might get the nod. Player development has been probably our weakest point as a club and AR might be the one to turn this around.

Cracks me up and makes me ::) how many people on here with absolutely zero/zilch/nada/no FIRST HAND knowledge of the candidates, generate perception based on an agenda, deluded fantasy and/or media hype.

Hands up who on here has worked directly with any of these blokes in their current assistant coaching roles......
Hands up anyone who knows them personally, let alone their ability in a football environment...... :tumbleweed

none of this chinese whispers, 'I've heard' 'from all reports' it appears' or other matter of fact 'opinion', its predominately uneducated guesswork.

Unless any of you have worked directly with any of the candidates, your opinion on whether they are capable to do the job or not is potentially uneducated, uninformed and quite possibly just a rehash of someone else's opinion.

The media spout that Hardwick has been involved with 3 flags but people worry about his ability to develop players... based on what???????

The media say Richardson is a great developer of talent but people worry about his tactical nous or game day ability.....based on what?????

Hopefully people can accept the new coach knowing the club has done all it can to identify the best person available.

Kindly refrain and desist from this nonsense, good sir.

You are trying to dazzle us wih logic and common sense, neither of which is welcome around here. Hell, most of us can't even spell the words, let alone practice these things.

Get with the program and speculate wildly like everyone else. You're just embarassing yourself by admitting that you don't have any friends of friends who know somebody, like everybody else does.

More logic. What is wrong here, have I accidentally logged onto Bizarro World PRE?

I actually agree with this too.

Exactly, how dare people express opinions on an internet forum.

That is a common sense post.

I guess many here just don't have faith in the club's process to choose the best candidate but you're right it is a heck of a lot more thorough than gut feel opinions.

However based on our record on the coaching front over the past 25 years you can understand supporter's scepticism of the club to make the best choice in spite of such a rigorous search.

Let's just hope that whoever they select is the best option because to say that they have got an important job ahead of them is an understatement.

March asked a question of whether he is prepared to lose a good candidate to finish the process, he said yes

OTOH he said it should be over in 10 days which I'm sure Hardwick can delay North for.
