The Official "RFC Coaching Position" Discussion Thread

yeah if laidleys rumoured reaction to our beating of north earlier in the year is true, then he should be told by the RFC to *smile*.

:hihi

I have read this so many times and don't get it.

If I coached against Richmond and lost to them, I would rip into my players too about how could we loose to such a side. ;D

Let's face reality people and not be so precious. We need the best person for the job, and whoever that is, let's not filter it with tribal sensitivity.

Confirmed on Footy Classified last night by Caro that 2nd round interviews were beginning yesterday. Those that made it to the 2nd round are Hardwick, Richardson, Hinkley and Rawlings. Laidley still in the mix but not sure on whether its for the senior coaching gig. Brad Scott did not make it through to the 2nd round. Hutchy got it wrong on the Footy Show and admitted it last night.

Brad Scott and Leon Cameron were impressive during their interviews but the club thought they needed another year or 2 before being senior coaches.

In saying that I think the same will apply to Rawlings (not enough experience), however he has to continue through the process right until the end as he is the caretaker coach.

Adrian Fletcher and Sumich were also interviewed but did not make it to the 2nd round.

I suspect an announcement will be made right after Round 22.

good process. it's refreshing that we have one and are sticking to it.

now all we need is a recruiting process, and not make it up as we go.

Heard on the radio that it's now down to four, with both the boys I liked still in there.

Rawlings, Hinkley, Hardwick & Richardson.

I won't mention the horses I've backed for fear I might put the "mockers" on them.

;)

Well, what do you know!

The radio was right.

That will be interesting if the coach is involved in a finals campaign
However given the Bombers & Hawks are going to miss the finals, I guess it would only be Hinkley that is potentially affected

I think you might be right Smoker, from what Hutchy stated you would think experience is an important criteria.

Hardwick should have the job.

Ok, now that it appears it is down to only a few canditates I thought I would have a closer look at them.

1) Damien Hardwick

Began his career in 1994 and played in Essendon's premiership in 2000. Played with port Adelaide till 2004 where he played in the premiership side. After winning a premiership he went into coaching as an assistant at Hawthorn in 2005 under Clarkson. The hawks won a premiership in 2008. He has a commerce degree.

2) Ken Hinkley.

Played with Fitzroy and at Geelong in three grand finals(92,94,95) and is a member of their hall of fame. He was an assistant coach to Malcom Blight at St Kilda and now has been at geelong since 2004. He is an attacking coach who is in charge of offensive strategies all over the ground. He has won two premierships coaching Camperdown in 99,2000 and took Bell park to a premiership in 2003. He is held in very high regard with younger players in assisting with their development.

3) Alan Richardson.

Started his career with North and then went on to collingwood, he played in the pies finals series but missed the grand final after snapping his collar bone in the semi's.
He won two premierships with east burwood in the EFL. He coached at coburg in the vfl and also at the dogs,Collingwood and essendon. He is held in very high regard with the development of the young players. He is currently assistant coach at Essendon after leaving collingwood as an assistant under malthouse.

4) Jade Rawlings.

We all know his story.

good point. i wonder if that means JR's papers are stamped and they're only keeping him in the process so he can finish the season out...?

......so does that mean if we get him we'll win the flag in 2012?

No different to Clarkson. Port amicably decided to part with him before they went into the finals. I don't see a big issue with this, everyone knows they are applying for the job in the first place.

Dawks won't make the finals anyway, so hopefully Hardwick will be signed up in 3 weeks time.

Crutchy says Longmire to succeed Roos after the end of next season. About to be announced at a 4pm press conference.

I say Roos are stuffed. :rofl

Let's hope that doesn't make the Kangas throw everything bar the kitchen sink at Hardwick.

It wil. I think they will end up with either Hardwick or Scott. North's process is shorter than ours, hell they don't even have one. They could just jump at who they want and offer him all their $$$ like they did with Buckley so they could steal Hardwick away from us. Could be why things are starting to pick up with our search (decision made before end of the month) and rumoured to even be announced within a week or 2.

Only to see Hardwick and Clarko announce a succession plan for 2019 :hihi
