The Official "RFC Coaching Position" Discussion Thread

Heard on the radio that it's now down to four, with both the boys I liked still in there.

Rawlings, Hinkley, Hardwick & Richardson.

I won't mention the horses I've backed for fear I might put the "mockers" on them.

;)
Whats happened to Scott? He has gone from being favourite to not in the race. I think there is a fair bit of guess work going on in the media and no one really knows what is happening. The RFC has gone from being the 'Titanic' to the 'Endevour'.

OK, boys, you called me out. You should know by now that, like a lot of posters on PRE, I never let a few inconvenient facts get in the way of the point I am trying to make.

:hihi

Wasn't trying to be smart. Always rated Hinkley as a player. Something about the way he played appealed to me.

Back pocket, half-back flank, Loose man in defence....same...all same. This time anyway.

Just don't get Livvers and Disco started on where someone plays ;D

Reported in the Aged that Laidley is through to the final consideration bypassing the early stages. :brickwall
Why Laidley for :police: sake ??? He hates us with passion ???

de Boer and Browne IIRC.  :stir

Let's not forget that De Boer, in his first year as an 18yo rookie choice, has entered the Freo senior team in round 6 and has played every round since.

I may have lost the bet, but it's the AFL recruiters who lost some of their credibility on him.

And which Browne are you referring to?

That was always reported as the case.

Wouldn't read anything into it other than that they think there wasn't much they could learn about Dean in the first round of interviews that they already didn't know.

Laidley could be used as the benchmark. If any of the "rookie,s" get close to or past the mark then all good for us.

I'm with you on de Boer, just not with pick 8. I'd happily swap him for Thomson at this stage. From memory you had (our) Andrew Browne at pick 26. And I agree with your sentiment that if we'd missed Tyrone we would have had to overpay for a second-tier ruckman and potentially miss someone like Post.

No offence taken. I could just see an avalanche of corrections coming so I thought I get in first.

I'd be very happy to have Hinkley as coach. I've always thought he was fantastic.

Curious interview with Laidley on SEN.

Confirmed he has been talking to a number of clubs about assistant or director of coaching roles. Also mentioned he is interested in the opportunity for West Sydney (although seemed to angle more towards the DoC role there due to the marketing requirement).

From a personal perspective, I didn't get the impression he is desperate for our senior coaching gig. Robbo pushed him a few times on "what kind of job do you want", but he just said he wants to remain in coaching.

Again my read (so grain of salt) is I have concerns now if he has the hunger for the big role, and it definitely appeared to me he seems to be focusing on the DoC type jobs.

Just my read for what its worth, but if this is right, I'd like to get in the mix to get him to support our rookie coach.

Yes I got the feeling his application for the Richmond job is far more up in the air than the media have been saying. He's had 1 chat with CC before he went away and thats it. He was even unsure where he was in the mix for the job. Like I've been saying this is shades of the Walls situation for me.

Not Laidley, not for the senior coaching position. Maybe he can take Brian Royal's job but keep him right away from the main gig.

Throw Laidley into that group and it is probably where its at.

Laidley left North having had a moderately successful career with a list which was for the most part short on skill and big on heart. He had management problems throughout this time badly handeling issues he had with Motlop and big Hamish, to name just two. Also he has n't been a great developer of younger players preferring to leave them in the vfl until they are breaking down the door or miss out because of a later form fluctuation or injury.

When he left North he spoke about a role in football. Todays age article suggests a new aggression for the game, but maybe the reality is that his first reaction to his departure was the right one. My take is that he is a modest man, a totally different character to Wallace in just about all respects.

In short ;D I would love to see him in Royal's job supporting whom ever gets the no1 job, (which I still think maybe Richardson).

I have been talking up Cousins for a few years now and I was interested to read during the week a story attributed to Wallace, to the effect that the club had gone to Demetriou at the end of 06 with our first pick in the PSD and asked to be allowed to take Cousins and hold him for the 12 months of his deregistration, with a view to providing him with a footy home and preparing him for season 08. Dimi said :rofl

It is now history but Ben got through 07 and as I suggested at the time, apparently he did it far tougher than would otherwise have been the case.

Any way he is now where he is and the time is absolutely right to recognize what he has bought to the Club and will bring in the future. 1x1 as a player is fine but now is the time to bring him on to the coaching panel and assure him of an extended future at Punt Road. Would star in the role and such an announcement would give an enormous boost to our younger players, while providing us with even more favourable marketing opportunities.

Jade the blade as assist in defence, Cambo to take over at Coburg.

Most seem to think Scott is definitely still in the running and Hutchy even thinks and early favourite.

I definitely don't want Laidley in the top Job. I know someone who knows a few Roos players and they don't speak to highly of him as a coach or communicator. :( Not what we need at this point in time me thinks. We just got rid of our bad communicator, lets not repeat the problems

I'd certainly like to have Laidley in a Director Of Coaching role.

Of course with a special role in match-day tactics.

What happens if the Roos and Tigers both pick Hardwick?

A strong possibility given the state of both teams lists and ladder positions.

Hardwick would be my No.1 choice, but what if the Roos say the job is his and so do we?

Obviously he gets to choose, and given the amount of money the Roos found for Buckley, could this sway him if they offer him a big dollar contract?

Do we miss out again?

Re: What happens if the Roos and Tigers both pick Hardwick?

If he goes to the Roos just for the money so be it.
