The Official "RFC Coaching Position" Discussion Thread

Very happy with those list of names so far
They could have saved lots of time and just asked me and I would have picked out those 5 from the list straight away

I am quite surprised that Leon Cameron is out of the running. Scooty might need to give his sources a good kicking ;D

Hutchy last night on the footy show said that the Tigers were very impressed with Brad Scott and probably has his nose in front at this stage.

Cameron, Lepitsch, Rock, and Neeld out of the running.

Will be out of Hardwick, Rawlings, Scott, Richardson and Hinkley. Scott and Hardwick leading the way

Surprised KB and the rest of the Old Tiger Farts stop pushing for Sheedy.
What I've seen Sheedy has been doing pretty well in the Super Coach

Richmond, Roos in advanced stages of recruiting coach
Mike Sheahan | August 07, 2009 12:00am

RICHMOND'S coaching sub-committee will complete first-round interviews today when it meets Peter Sumich and Adrian Fletcher. Sumich, the long-time West Coast assistant, and Fletcher (Brisbane Lions) are hoping to join at least four hopefuls assured of a second hearing.

Caretaker Jade Rawlings and senior assistants at other clubs, Damien Hardwick (Hawthorn), Ken Hinkley (Geelong) and Alan Richardson (Essendon), are through to the next round.

The Tigers are understood to have interviewed up to 10 applicants, with Sumich, Fletcher and, perhaps, former North Melbourne coach Dean Laidley still to come.

North Melbourne also is advanced in its search for a successor to Laidley.

The Roos are believed to have six or seven contenders.

They are headed by caretaker Darren Crocker, long-time Sydney assistant and North premiership player John Longmire, Hardwick and Collingwood assistant and Brisbane Lions premiership player Brad Scott.

The status of senior hopefuls Leon Cameron (Western Bulldogs) and Justin Leppitsch (Brisbane Lions) in the broad coaching mix is not known.

Hardwick is a strong contender for both vacancies, given his perfect pedigree -- premierships as a player at Essendon and Port Adelaide and as an assistant coach at Hawthorn.

Hinkley has the experience plus his senior status at Geelong, the most successful club of the past three years.

Richardson has a low profile, but he has his admirers, particularly at Punt Rd, as an acknowledged development coach at Collingwood, the Bulldogs and now Essendon.

The North situation is equally intriguing.

Longmire has obvious credentials, given his playing history and long association with the Swans during an outstanding term dating back to 2003.

There might be a dark horse at North, too: former player Peter German.

He is coaching Casey Scorpions in the VFL after terms at West Coast and Fremantle and an outstanding reign at Subiaco in the WAFL.

German, 44, is seen to have done a surprisingly good job with Melbourne's VFL affiliate.

North Melbourne is understood to have three Collingwood aspirants on its extended list: Scott, the club's VFL coach and former captain Gavin Brown and assistant Mark Neeld.

Wouldn't be too unhappy with this outcome by the way. For me I think he or Hardwick have to be contenders, however from what I've seen of Jade the Blade he could still be a valuable assett in an assistant role.

I too was surprised to see Cameron out of the running, especially on top of Scooty's rumors.

According to Greg Denham, who usually has good mail on Richmond, Hardwick and Hinkley were extremely impressive in their presentations.

I am starting to think Scooty has been sent on a wild goose chase!! The complete opposite is being reported today to what he posted here a few days back.

Interesting, so basically completely opposite to the media to what the media speculated having a past in Tigerland (in a unsuccessful era) actually worked against Cameron

yeah i
Belive it did one of the clubs bigest thing is premishps and succsess realy the only exemption is jade but they realy cant dispose of him from the race

So Jade is there as a token gesture not to rattle the apple cart??

For those still remaining in the hunt for the job the candidates with premiership experience are;
* Hardwick (player and assistant coach)
* Scott (player only)
* Hinkley (assistant coach only)
* And possibly Sumich if he interviews well. (player and assistant coach)

Thats good because it means Rawlings almost certainly can't get the job now, they can't get rid of Cameron for those reason then turn around and choose Rawlings.

BTW what happened to your cousin in the race? They mentioned him on SEN this morning wondering why he wasn't still up for the job.

So if thats the key criterion, then Hardwick wins surely having success on the ground and in the box.

Hinkley and Richardson aren’t Premiership players either.

Hinkley was a player in those Malcolm Blight-Geelong sides of the 1990s that racked up a series of second placings and Richardson would have played in Collingwood’s 1990 team except for injury.

What I will say about Hinkley is that Geelong’s success can’t be due to Bomber Thompson.

Hardwick has an outstanding background, premiership player at two clubs, coached by Sheedy and Williams, Assistant coach for another flag.
Scott is also a double Premiership player, coached by Matthews, assistant to Malthouse.

It would be good if we can get a couple of these guys.

Dissappointed Cameron is out of the running, but he was always a darkhorse/longshot. I was starting to think he really had a shot there. :(

I like the confirmed names on to the next round so far, going to be very interesting seeing how this pans out.

leppitsh is a premaship player hinkley has coached flags richo is the interestring one they rate him a flag is only one thing hence why jade and richo r still chances coached on team good communicators etc as 4 my cousin he dosnt have a real desire and is more of a pen and paper man very old school

Any of them plumbers? ;D

Over-rated qualification.

Speaking of plumbers, a mate of mine was telling me the other day that he recently had a plumber out to fix a problem with pipes in his backyard. This guy refused to do the job until someone else cleaned up the mud first.

Whatever happened to real men tradesmen?
