The First 12

I would much prefer De Goey to Blakely.

Yeah me too. For sure. I haven't had them in the same pick because I reckon Goo goes by 20 and Blakely starts around the same pick to 35.

Specifically?

Given that the club has been banging on about an inside mid as a priority, and even looked to trade for a ready made, Blakely's skill set and exposure to senior footy would have him pretty well placed?

Pick 12 is 1st slip in the draft, so if any of the higher fancied picks fall we're in prime position.

However, if they don't, what's left is pretty even out to the mid 20's, and 12 becomes a so so pick. If we're after Blakely's skill set we might have to go early, as he wont be there at our second. The implications of the Trengove trade were huge.
I like him. Clearance machine, great step in traffic, keeps his feet well and has really good hands. I know the problem is that we can't rotate him forward, but as an inside mid I don't mind what we'd get. Maybe Menadue at 33 ;D

Anyone like the cut of Kyle Langford's Jib?

All valid points but I think much will come down to the best combination of players we can muster, Blakely represents the best inside mid but others like Neal- Bullen & Gore wouldn't be to far behind, I reckon there's a good chance 1 will be available at 33. Still undecided between Duggan & De Goey to be honest, Duggan probably gets the gig based on his output over the entire season and his AIS pedigree, he also represents an excellent replacement for Newman.

Blakelys only real problem is his kicking efficiency when he is challenged to kick long. His is a tidy kick with distances less than 40 mtrs but over that he struggles.

As a forward yes but he was played out of position during the carnival. He test well at the combine and he is a good decision maker with his kicking.

What are people's thoughts on Ellis?

Seems to be one guy around the mark of a 1st rounder that doesn't get mentioned.

We've already got the good one, maybe time to try another flavour.

He's not much of an inside player and his outside game isn't damaging enough. Very neat with his disposal but doesn't take the game on enough for my liking, would rather have a true line breaker in the role.

I like Gore better than Blakely. Not a massive fan of Blakely.

For clearances I think Blakely is top shelf, looks to be in the Dunstan mould, perhaps lacking some finesse. Gore has much greater upside though, he's a very well rounded footballer with superior athletic abilities, he just needs to up his overall production, something which could feasibly happen in the right environment. I still think we should steer clear of the inside mids until our later picks, Duggan with our first & hopefully Gore with our second would be a great result. I could see both being part of a premiership side.

If one the premier talls slipped (Durdin, Wright, Lever) would we take them or would we still be looking at a mid??

Was only pondering this this morning, reckon if Wright was there or Durdin you can't ignore them but surely they wouldn't be at 12.

Would have to take best available, Wright will go top 4 so scrub his name out, Durdin may slip given Adelaide don't have pick 10, I would take him in a heartbeat.

If Durdin or Wright are available I would rubber stamp their drafting at 12 instead of an inside mid. Look what Miles from a late rookie pick brought to the table albeit it a lucky pick for us.

Durdin has slipped in a few phantom drafts of late. Knightmare (who's usually pretty good)'s latest has him still getting to Adelaide at 14, while he's got Duggan going to GWS at 7.

Duggan going at 7 would be a good thing for us - allows another to potentially slide.

Latest news is that GWS are very keen on both Pickett and Laverde - don't think they'll pick both up but at least one with pick #7.

If in the unlikely event Laverde is available, he is ours.

If Laverde has been picked up, I just hope that we pick Weller if available.

I've heard Collingwood are keen on Laverde at 5. I reckon either Ahern or Duggan are our best case scenarios now.
