The First 12

Pick #7 seems to deliver very good value, 12th placed team not real crap, probably about to move up so have their act together to pick a decent player away from the hype of trying to get the #1 nailed. Unless the draft is so corrupted then it could go to any team.

I can almost guarantee one thing from the draft. The No.1 Pick (TM) will almost certainly not be the best player taken.

Callum Twomey has named Corey Ellis as our possible pick #12 with Sam Durdin, Lachie Weller, Liam Duggan all in the mix (if available of course).

Not so much the video but St Kilda refusing to accept picks 4 & 7 will place enormous pressure on the lad. Personally I would have made the trade, McCartin / Wright + Laverde / Weller seems to be more bang for the buck. Petracca is good but is he that much better than say David Swallow? Scully? Whitfield? History has shown that 2 picks in the top 7 are generally superior to pick 1, I wonder if this will be Pelican's lasting legacy.

2013
Tom Boyd vs Bontempelli, Aish

2012
Whitfield vs Toumpas, Wines

2011
Patton vs Hoskin-Elliott, Nick Haynes

2010
Swallow vs Gaff, Caddy

2009
Scully vs Morabito, Sheppard

2008
Watts vs Hartlett, Rich

2007
Kreuzer vs Morton, Palmer

2006
Gibbs vs Leuenberger, Selwood

2005
Murphy vs Kennedy, Ryder

2004
Deledio vs Tambling, Lewis

From this scenario it would appear that picks 4 & 7 would at least break even, more often than not trumping the output of a pick 1. Petracca is good but is he worth two players? I have my doubts, history has been pretty clear where this has been concerned.
Very good point and well made

Interesting. I'd hope one of Duggan, Durdin and Weller are available all of whom I'd take in a heartbeat before Ellis.

Ellis screams foot soldier to me, upside would be limited in terms of his overall impact. Weller is the one from that batch, he's quick too, seems to tick all the critical boxes.

Yep, Weller would actually be the perfect player for us right now. Has everything we've been crying out for. I'm refusing to get my hopes up though!

Just slightly off topic, the site that shall not be mentioned now has the footage for Alex Neal-Pullen. :hihi

I'm really warming to Duggan. We need inside mids, but we probably need clean footskills even more as well as rebounding flair off the HBF.

Inside mid with our second (Gore hopefully), with Lennon and Duggan off HBF and we'll be in good shape imo.

We will surely take a HBF as well as mids as clearly the club aren't happy that our current replacements for Newman in that position are good enough, hence why Newman played so much and got another contract this year. If we have someone that makes a mark this year then I expect Newman to retire at the end of 2015 but it really shows our lack of quality there so hope we nail this as well as the mids.

What order those picks go in I have no idea.

Just on Duggan, he has exceptional leadership qualities. School captain of St Patricks in Ballarat. That's a huge deal in that town, everyone wants a piece of his time. And is a utter professional in every sense as well. Travels from Ballarat to the Western Jets and does not waste a minute of his time. Will fit into a AFL club environment no problems at all and will raise the professionalism of the group amongst the younger group.

FJ loves credentials like this, reckon he's right in the frame.

This is the type of player we've targeted over the last few years. Isn't it time for a diff dynamic. Diff type to add versatility. I reckon so

Yeah, it's very Frank like.

I tell you Bully, this draft is wide open.

Besides CP at 1 & Darcy Moore, I have no idea.

Just to clarify, school captain or captain of the first 18?

I'm an old boy and follow the school on social media.

It is, although I can say with some certainty that Laverde & Pickett will go early. As for our pick, really tough to say, the only hint has been inside mid but I suspect this is a red herring.

And Geelong going to 10 makes me think they are going to look for pace & midfielders.

Haven't seen it myself but apparently Brett Anderson has said he doesn't think GC will take Weller, they're worried he'll want to relocate to Vic in a couple of years to be close to Mav, and the rest of his family will be moving down there soon. Pretty much leaves us and the Cats in the race, unless Collingwood take him at 5...
