The First 12

I think Pickett will go to Geelong hence why they traded down to pick 10.

Varcoe out, Pickett in, makes perfect sense to me. My money's on Ahern at 12, not upset with that outcome either, think he'll be an excellent pick-up.

Ahern ticks all the boxes but i think we will go Duggan. Is your classic FJ pick.

Not so sure, he's no certainty for the midfield which leads me to believe we'll grab Ahern if available.

He's certainly a mid. Played midfield all year in the TAC Cup

He's very outiside, he had huge numbers for handball receives and I also question how effective his kicking will be in heavy traffic. I like him as a footballer but I think he'll do his best work when given plenty of space. At the moment he presents as an ideal rebounding flanker who can deliver long and accurate kicks in the Suckling mould. I have him in the 15-20 range.

I would really like to know Why people dont see Nakia Cockatoo as a legitimate 1st round selection, This kid is exactly the type of player we need and fits the character requirments as well.

Born : 23.10.1996, 188cm, 86kg - This Kid Turns 18 next week , Yes thats correct is 9 months younger than Brayshaw/Patracca so he is effectively 1 year behind them as far as development goes, He probably has another 2-3 cm of growth left and is extremely powerfully built

Speed, Agility,Leap, Dual sided Kicking skills and excellent kick , Great reader of the ball , Fantastice to coach and Determined to succeed at afl level

Just some quotes from Emma Quayles article last week

" Powerfully built medium forward/midfielder with elite step through traffic. His initial speed out of the contest creates separation on his opponents. Uses the ball with precision on either side of the body and can impact the scoreboard when he pushes forward. Suffered stress fracture in foot causing him to miss the NAB AFL under-18 championships after impressing in 2013."

"He's pretty versatile. He does his homework and he looks after himself really well, he prides himself on working hard on his skills and training hard and being a student of the game. He's very coachable because of all that work he does, he wants to make sure he understands exactly how the coach wants him to play. He's the sort of kid who is always looking out for his family and his mates, he couldn't play in the nationals becuase of his foot injury but he supported the other players and spoke up in team meetings and said 'you blokes need to do this and this,' and ran water and helped in any way he could. He started back training at the end of June and that was modified until August, but he's done everything right with his rehab and he's in good shape now. I think he'll test well, his fitness is looking pretty good. He's a utility type player who could play forward, back or on a wing, and he loves the competitive stuff. At a pinch you could almost play him on a tallish forward and get him running off them. He respects people and is just a really mannered, good kid."

If this kid was playing all year and wasnt injured would be a top 3-5 selection, Pick #12 Is certainly worth taking a risk, But i dont think its actually is a Risk

FRANCIS JACKSON , BLAIR HARTLEY , LUKE WILLIAMS , DAMIEN HARDWICK , BRENDON GALE , MARK WILLIAMS - You really need to consider this kid as he is a massive talent and is exactly what we need and want at Richmond Football Club

I like what you wrote there Turk.

Now mate you need to update the get Blake Acres to get Cockatoo.

The thing with Cockatoo is a lack of exposed form, most in the top 20 will have significant runs on the board - this is the risk. Whilst his form was electric on Grand Final day, so too was Ahern's who also starred at the carnival. Then there's the argument that he's not really stamped himself as a well rounded midfielder, just a utility who is capable on the outside but lacks a bit of contested ball winning ability. I like Cockatoo, he's at the top of the list for a second rounder, but I'm a bit apprehensive about spending pick 12 on him.

I was wondering if most posters were basing their opinion on Cockatoo on 1 game against kids a year younger than him? But he Certainly sounds a good type. Reminiscent of the great R. Tambling.

You mean there could be mini Greg Millers posting? ;D
(Hopefully they're not the same ones who used to have a dig at Miller for doing that)

Tambling never had the strength, Size or the mental strength to do some of the things Nakia does - Along with being head screwed by being taken ahead of Buddy

You mention that he is playing against kids younger than him , He is 17 years old and probably the youngest player on the ground in that game

The following MAY all be in the mix at pick #12 :

Laverde, Weller, Ahern, Duggan, Cockatoo.

I think Weller is the one for us if available as a classy and skilful mid. Wouldn't be surprised though if Gold Coast pick him up at #8. I feel Laverde will also be picked up before we get a chance to nab him which will be a shame as he would fill a gaping hole in our team.

Ahern will be a good fit though and should be available. Prefer him to Duggan, though Duggan seems like a solid pick.

Don't think we will be into Cockatoo unless he is available at our 2nd round pick.

The most important picks are after the 1st round IMO - if we nail at least 2 of the remaining 4 picks it would be a very successful draft for us and our midfield puzzle would just about be complete.

Bit of Fun.

1. Petracca - St Kilda
2. McCartin - Dees
3. Brayshaw - Dees
4. Wright - GWS
5. Lever - Pies
6. Durdin - GWS
7. Laverde - GWS
8. Weller - GC
9. Moore - Pies
10. Ahern - Geelong
11. Pickett - West Coast
12. Duggan - Richmond

Pretty sure the opposition was next year's draft crop, all of whom would be younger than Nakia.

Yep.

Too risky for us at pick #12 IMO.

If North want him with their first pick they can have him.

Cockatoo has a head that looks 40 years old !
