The Finals thread

Gee, did he really say that? Shocking thing to say.

Hopefully all clubs exploit Maxwell's ability to only play one position on the field in future - the Jason Cloke third man up in the backline role.

Maxwell. :help

along with our own Chrissy Newman :inlove he's probably the best example of a captain who isn't in the top 10 players at his club.

Just want to say, every year, I ususlly have moments when I feel envious that it is never us in the GF, but I still love GF day, the BBQs etc, it is footy fans xmas and i always have a great day.

This year though, I just wasn't into it. Just because it was the same old teams and particularly I didn't want Coll to win again, The cold wet weather didn't help either.

So I am wrapt Coll lost. Nice to finish the year on a happy note. And, no matter what you think of Geel, you have to admire what they have done. Like many, i though they would slide this year.

Also, I wonder what Bomber and Gazza would of been feeling yesterday. Particularly Gazza. I heard him interviewed on SEN at the start of the finals, and he said he would be a little envious if Geel won, and that you play for premierships. Well, no buddy, you play for money. If you played for premierships you would of stayed at Geel, you left chasing money *smile*, so suffer to you. Enjoy your money because that is what you play for, not premierships. I admire Ling Johnson etc etc far more than you.

And now we just need the trade and draft period to go well for us. Very important few week coming up for us.

Hawkins only played well because Reid was on one leg. Clearly he wasnt up to it physically. He was embarrassingly out of it. Lets not get to carried away with Hawkins. Still limited player, but credit to him stepping up

You still have to take the contested marks. You still have to get in the right positions. You still have to kick the goals. And you still have to deal with the extra pressure of a grand final. Pods was off for much of the game, Mooney no longer, Hawkins was their primary tall forward and he killed them, and especially stood up in that last quarter when the game was there to be won. If Reid wasn't up to it then why didn't they put someone else on Hawkins. Can only beat what's served up to you. Hawkins has stepped up immensely in the finals series. Reckon it's probably the turning point for him.

Hawkins has been very good for the past month. Was already turning the corner before yesterday.

Leysy had a cheeky bet on him for the Norm Smith at 120/1.

Needed a couple of his posters to go in & not to handball off to Stevie J & he probably would have won it.

Where's David booffiant??? The best fitness guy, sports science, sports biomechanics etc.
If you haven't got heart and 101% commitment that's what you get.
They lost 2 games all year, had a percentage of 167, but typical Collingwood lose a G.F without a fight.
The only side that matchers them in that area is Stkilda. Last year they hit the front with all the momentum and still found a way of not winning.
Collingwood will always be Collingwood!
Bring back Obree, Licura & Tarken

This is garbage. They had injuries and interruption at the wrong end of the season. They made errors at the selection table. This was probably the best first 3 quarters of a GF I have seen. They fell short by a quarter in a classic game and you peddle this rubbish.

The Pies have been a fantastic side over the last 2 seasons and I'm sure the coach change will likely have a positive impact.

BTW I tipped Geelong and am wrapt to see the Pies lose but don't understand all this exagerrated rubbish posters are carrying on with.

Your got no idea, if they played a real side last year, they would be excatly like us.
And for your information they finished on top a game clear and huge % and they kick 2 goals after half time.
They are crap.
An old pensioner side beat them!

And for all the gloating in the end it boils down to the Cats beat them 3 times this season and were the ONLY side to beat them. So GF perhaps went as you would expect. I watched those first 3/4ers thinking the Tiges are a long, long, long way from matching this intensity and quality.

I sat there yesterday thinking 'how good will it be when we win it'? Then i thought of how heartbreaking it would be to finally get there and lose it.

From memory Newman was around top 5 in B&F up until he was injured in Rd 18. So I'd say many, including me, would disagree with you on that.

I'm wondering which 10 players DDT considers to be better than Newman.

Fair spray. Oh well Gazza will probably play in another one before too long. ::)

And Bartel. He knocked back some very good money to stay with the Cats.

In fairness to Gazza, the offer he got was so ridiculous he couldn't refuse it. The AFL virtually forced him to take it. I would not begrudge any player taking that sort of a deal, I I honestly don't think any Cats players would either.

As a mark of the guy, I'll bet he is feeling both really happy for his old team mates.

on most days

Cotchin Martin Deledio Riewoldt Vickery Houli Foley Rance Grimes Nahas

on some days maybe Edwards and Grigg

and the list will grow

Ouch. You don't rate our Capt at all. I'd I've him sitting at number 6 on your list.

If we bring consistency into the equation he would climb a gew more spots.

And I can only assume you adding edwards was meant for a laugh.
