The Finals thread

That Ling bloke can still do a pretty good shutdown job. The Brownlow medalist was ineffectual.

And the Tomahawk took over. Man. He owned it. (Bar the kicking)

Tree Trunks Hawkins has really stepped up in the past 6 weeks, looks to have come of age although I agree about the kicking, he's missing goals by the proverbial country mile.

Who do you think Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel's favourite player is???

Collingwood captain Nick Maxwell said he believed the Cats were helped by the necessity to replace key forward James Podsiadly, due to injury, with nimble substitute Mitch Duncan in the second quarter.
''I thought it did have a positive effect in the end for them. It threw me out of position - there wasn't a match-up for me so I had to go up on to a wing and try and play a role there,'' he said. ''They restructured. They had a heap of quick guys so there was no match-up for me … it just threw us out everywhere.''

Superb. Cloke had the game by the scruff of the neck and Lonergan put him to sleep.

Got a feeling that Cloke will walk after next season, the offers will be too good to refuse.
Plus daddy needs the spare cash!

Where was the Arizona Theory in the last Qtr yesterday,
It's all *smile*, take Pettifer, Hyde, Conners & Morton to Arizona for 5 years and they would come back,
Exactly the same.
Where's David booffiant??? The best fitness guy, sports science, sports biomechanics etc.
If you haven't got heart and 101% commitment that's what you get.
They lost 2 games all year, had a percentage of 167, but typical Collingwood lose a G.F without a fight.
The only side that matchers them in that area is Stkilda. Last year they hit the front with all the momentum and still found a way of not winning.
Collingwood will always be Collingwood!
Bring back Obree, Licura & Tarken

Hawkins only played well because Reid was on one leg. Clearly he wasnt up to it physically. He was embarrassingly out of it. Lets not get to carried away with Hawkins. Still limited player, but credit to him stepping up

No! your clearly wrong both Reid & Jolly were 100%, that's what Eddie said.
Hawkins goes into history like the day Royce Hart flew over his opponent to take a great mark in a grand final.
Hawkins has just signed an Aliastar Lynch contract 10 years!! :cupgold

Hawkins did a similar job the previous week on Darren Glass so no.

Great Win By the Cats. The press now claim they are better than Brisbane,s 3peat.Begs to differ but would be up there.
Not bagging Bartels game and winning the Norm Smith however yet another Mid gets a medal. As far as im concerned the medal should have went to Lonigan.Cloke at the time was killing Taylor and looked likely at the time to get the pies over the line off his own boot.

I heard Nick's interview as I was driving home from work.  Talk about putting one's self ahead of the team.  You can't be a one trick pony in grand finals.  History will show you didn't perform Nick.  I thank you for that. :clap

Edit- I just re-read my post and it sounds very mean. I really, really didn't want the Pies to win so am relieved many Pies were down on form for whatever reason.

Congrats to the Cats. Would love you as a Tiger Dingaling.

Moving right on. The slate is clean now. Here's to a Tigeriffic 2012 :beer

Does anyone remember this chick flick from a few years ago?

http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi598868249/

The Colliwobbles are only one bridesmaid's dress behind!

Cracking game yesterday, really enjoyed it. Thought Bartel was clearly BOG. Thought he and Selwood dragged the cats back into it in the 2nd quarter after Pods went off. He has everything you want in a footballer - tough, skillful and can kick goals. Also thought Lonergan did a fantastic job on Cloke after he looked really dangerous in the first 2 quarters. But he did get plenty of help from Scarlett and particularly Taylor as 3rd men in.

And wasn't it great to see Leon Davis perform well in another grand final . . . . About as good as Meat Loaf

Have to be careful not to overeact to the fact that Collingwood lost and many of their players did not perform on the day because they have been an unbelievable team for the last couple of years but a few observations.

- Collingwood's success imo has been built around 7-8 top class players plus a number of role players who have been unbelievably well coached . Their game plan was very good and it has been played in an almost robotic way . I would be very careful about trying to attract individual players from that club who probably look better than they actually are . The "Justin Blumfield " effect .
- The key to breaking down Collingwood's defence is making them play one on one . Maxwell , O'Brien and Davis are not great one on one players . Maxwell showed himself to be a very limited footballer over the finals .
- This time last year we were writing Geelong off so we need to be careful with Collingwood but it seemed to me that other teams have started to work out how to unpick the Collingwood game plan just like they did with Hawthorn in 2008 .

Possibly not the best to judge Ju$tin on his time as a Tiger though. I was told by a very informed source that he didn't want to be with us and hardly made an effort.

And with very good fitness, the team has never been the most talented overall.

yeah fair enough Rosy . I was more thinking about the rush to get Essendon players then and none of them really stood out at their new clubs . With the possible exception of a player called Damien Hardwick at Port Adelaide :)

I just want us to be very careful in judging players like Goldsack , McCarthey , McAffer and others who may be talked about in trade period .

The only one in that group id even look at is McCarthy. He's more an inside mid from memory but played as a HFF/FP. The others play in the positions they would play for us and are only very average players at best.

Agree with the comment about Pies being built around 7-8 good players. Their top end is the best in the league. Geelong is the only team close to them in this regard. The Cats bottom 7-8 would be far and away the best far better than Collingwood's and that is why season 2011 resulted in a 3-0 result. Is it just me or since Ablett left have they all of a sudden got more contributers and a more even spread of players doing the work?

will any cats players retire or do they have years of this dynasty to run?

Plenty over the next couple of years.
Moons n Milly already cooked.
Ling, Donut, Corey, Hunt, Stevie J, Scarlett, JPod, Chappy, Wojo and Enright all have plenty of miles on the clock. Some may finish on this years flag, a few more maybe all by end of next year.

One thing about footy with the salary cap and list restrictions, there's few dynasties and change is constant.
The Cats have had an awesome era, very similar to the Brisvegas era. Lets just hope n pray Scumwood doesn't have one ;D. Then pray even harder that we do.

Gee, did he really say that? Shocking thing to say.

Hopefully all clubs exploit Maxwell's ability to only play one position on the field in future - the Jason Cloke third man up in the backline role.

Hahahahaha....he's a funny guy....... Maybe he should officially change his name to "Captain Courageous". He leads from the front - I clearly remember him wrestling one of the Geelong little guys off the ball early in the game - I assume it was him "flying the flag" for the boys & showing they wouldn't be intimidated by someone who could have been nearly 5 foot 6..... One day - he might even have a crack at someone about 2-3 inches shorter than him..........................

If he thinks they aren't watching that is................
