The Finals thread

Bombers to beat Blues please. Hate the Blues and seeing the tuirmoil it would cause will bring me no end of enjoyment. As RFC fans we can still brag our last finals win is more recent then theirs.

Bombers get smashed next week but they go into next season believing they are just a couple of flankers away from a Top 4 team. Their list is crap IMO but they and the media refuse to see it. Brilliant. Let them deal with the fallout ina couple of years time.

I'd love it if we could overacheive like the Bombers have.

Please get up Essendon. It will please me to no end to see the Blues go out in straight sets...........again.

I think their is an interesting debate with Saint Nick whether he is in the Chris Grant league (one of the best of his generation) or Wayne Carey league (one of the best of all time). I reckon he's in-between, but I think his goal kicking does perhaps tip the balance towards the Grant league.

Good post. Amazing work rate but a terrible set shot for goal. Makes Richo look like a dead eye *smile*.
St Kilda champion will do.

Well put Oldie.

A club 'champion' is definitely a lower value than an overall 'league' champion. He was one of the greats for his club but nowhere near a 'champion' of the AFL compared to Carey, J Brown, Judd and others when you consider his flaws.

Too many words are over-used nowadays especially by journos...........in an article regarding King's threat to another person in public the paper wrote......"Richmond superstar Jake King" .....uhm I don't think so.

I cant believe the negative posts towards Nick Riewoldt. I think people are judging him on what he has done this and not what he has done for the past 10 years.

He wore his oppenents into the ground with his constant movement between forward 50 and the centre and then quick burst runs deep into the forward 50.

Yeah, we should know from experience that one player can't always get his side across the line. Been a great and courageous player - wasn't always a terrible shot for goal and has clearly been restricted in 2011. The last 12 months have diminished his legacy, and 'St.Kilda champion' is about right at this stage. At 29 in Oct he may still have two or three great seasons in him. If he returns to his best, we'll be able to judge him accurately as St.Kilda revert to mid-table battlers.

Nick Riewoldt has been a great player . Just behind the great Richo imo , Richo's contested marking made him a better player . We shouldn't judge him on the last couple of seasons . When he was at his best he had the Richo trait of being too athletic for defenders the same size and too big for those who could athletically go with him .
I would suspect his best is behind him but he deserves to be remembered as one of the great forwards on the last decade .

Just of the last decade Sin? I think that is a given. What about of the last 30, or 50 years, or even of all time?

My best option for today's game is to hope the Blooze win, mainly because they'll surely lose to WC away next week and that the Bummers are gooooooooooooooone!!!

Don't know about that period , would have to think about it . Wouldn't be in the top 10 probably but that's no insult given that the period included players like G Ablett snr , Dunstall , Carey , Lockett etc .

To me the great forwards of the last decade are Tredrea , Brown , Richo , N. Riewoldt , Hall , Lloyd , Franklin and maybe a few others i can't recall . Nick Riewoldt is well up in that list for sure but there would be many opinions about where he would rank .

Picked it perfectly ToOheys.
There's no doubt Rooey's been an excellent player for St Kilda, but. Richo's game day performances have him covered any day of the week and Richo never had the luxury of playing in a side that had anywhere near the support quality that Rooey's had. Nor did Richo receive much benefit from the rule changes that came in late in his career. the arm chopping, scragging or hands in the back that help protect forwards nowadays.

Exactly right Maso. Richo deserved way more success than what he got. Even some non-Richmond supporters say it.

So hard to know who to go for, a couple of big punch-ups would be great

My head is saying that if the Blooze win then Ratten gets re-signed, they loose to WC and are still no closer to a flag
But I just can't hope for them to win

So as much as I hate it, go Bummers

I need a shower

Even a draw doesn't cure the problem, although it will stuff-up Adolf's diary. ;D

Will Ratten get the flick of the Blues lose?
Hope not ;D

Doubtful. They look to be improving as a side. Unless they can get Mick but i think Eddie will prevent that happening.
