The Blair "Which?" Project

Unfirtunately where does that leave our 2024 draft hand?
We need to find a system that keeps trading 1st rounders for 3rd and 4th, or phases in the change over 2 years
If there is any fairness in the afl they would not diminish the value of junk picks until 2025 and would give notice next year they are going to do it.
But the word fairness and the AFL don’t tend to go together

Our draft hand wouldn't be affected, all it does is force additional trades so we get to the stage of apples being traded for apples. The picks we have stockpiled would pass through multiple clubs until they have been converted to first and second rounders.

The Academy picks also need to be treated equally across the board, I find it almost scandalous that a player like Mitch Edwards is on the open market yet the entire GC crop are untouchable, that needs to change otherwise you wind up with all the generational talent being monopolised by one or two clubs. How many top 20 picks will now be playing in GC's best 22? What a gift to Dimma and no doubt he'll look like a genius if they finish top 4.

Didn't they say the same about GWS.
They might be quality draft kids but are they quality TEAM kids.
Anderson needs to come to Richmond.
Don't worry about Mcluggage

It will also depend on our trading strategy as well. Blair may chew through a few of those picks chasing players or we may go free agents and keep our picks.

Post Lynch..

Ryan, Fawcett, Koschitzke, Bauer

Despite all being young & in development, none certain to be a long term replacement, if any.

I would think Blair is on the case.
Write a post saying dud delist without writing a post saying dud delist.

*smile* me! GC have just had the most outrageous draft gifting ever seen, outside of new clubs first draft handout, and they still end up with the best draft hand for next year as well.
The game is fixed.
Think ya mighta mis spelled that last word there wammo. Nothing fixed about the game these days.
I'm not whinging about it. Like Poshy, I'm happy for the Suns to get access to their academy kids. Its great for football if Queensland (&NSW) develop more footballers, and great if they get the opportunity to study in this state.
But the points system is a farce totally against the supposed equalisation the AFL goes on about. It was a farce when the Pies got Daicos and it was a farce when the Dogs got JUH.
We could always go back to the system of clubs picking up their father son players with pick 60 or 70 or whatever. Nothing wrong with giving clubs a 20% discount for their father son prospects or academy kids they've actually worked at developing. That's an opportunity that should be available equally to all clubs, in other words simply get rid of the not before pick 40 restriction that non Northern clubs are hit with.

Funny that plenty of clubs were happy to do deals with Mold Coast to give them all these junk picks to start with.
Does no one in the various recruiting departments pay attention to what the interstate kids are doing as they develop through juniors???? They're following state squads from about U13 onward, were they all busy getting on the *smile* n checking out beach babes or something instead of seeing what these young players were growing into??

I don’t think it’s incompetence. Recruiters come under football operations and are subject to the soft cap limit. Clubs are not going to be sending their recruiters out (and paying the associated expenses) to keep close watch on players they have no chance of ever being able to draft such as those in the academy’s.

Of course they do. Matt Clarke actually talks about it as it is part of their ranking system. Also you will remember that we have bid on northern academy players in the past and actually recruited two in Cumberland and Ryan.

As for doing deals with the suns, clubs would be negligent not to do so. It doesn’t make the system right, they are just making the best of the system that exists

All well n good Sinner, but while the Tiges n every other club in the comp are happy to bend over n back scuttle the northern clubs as often as they can, then they lose the right to bleat n moan when the system favours those clubs for a year or two.

The system hasn't been right for bloody years n years, it's a contrived n manufactured fix by AFLHQ. All clubs do everything they possibly can to manipulate any and all possible crevices n loop holes around the AFL fix that they can find. Ya grin when ya find a crevice to slide through n cop it sweet when some other bastard beats ya to it.

Three, if you include Will Martyn, though perhaps we won't mention that...

We also bid on Hipwood and at least one other.

Matt Kennedy. Though that was GWS's academy rather than a QLD one.

Looking back at 2015 that was another sliding doors moment.

Bid on Kennedy at 13 - he's largely been a bust
Bid on Hipwood at 14 - Has been ok but might have led to us not going for Lynch as a FA
Took Dan Rioli at 15 - Been pivotal in our 3 premierships.

I wouldn't read too much into the bidding system, 90% of bids are made to keep rival clubs honest and to ensure players are valued correctly. Even then you get silly scenarios like Daicos being selected at 4 when he was clearly top 2.

A free agent next year and an upgrade on Hugo contingent on a professional rehab effort and medical clearance. We have the cap space as well as lots of picks if the Dogs want to force a trade. Only just turned 23.
