The Blair "Which?" Project

Keeping KMac suggests we are going to live or die by the turnover ground ball chaos sword.

Fine with me, just need a better way of defending the chippity chip chip.

I reckon the way this season has unfolded with the SHocking 'anti Richmond rules', placing a premium on elite disposal, that we'll go to the draft & look to bring in certain types that we haven't drafted previously. It will be a shift in policy with an eye on the future.
I guess that's when the AFL begin to revert the rules back?

"Under the AFL's free agency mandate, if a player takes up a rival's offer and moves clubs the player must be paid under the same year-by-year terms as agreed upon in the initial deal. " Looks like those theories about Lynch's payments being re-structured following Rance's retirement aren't true.
You could bring forward other players payments. Lynch is but one player.

Doesn't mean he's starting 22.

We can't afford to get rid of everyone in one year, if we want to keep competing. Particularly those under 30.

He would not be getting 3 years if the club did not see him as best 22 when fit.

What would we give up salary wise to get Billings? $600 per year for 3?
Is he worth it?

He has never been a big ball winner but rarely misses a game.

The Billings question is an interesting one. Personally, I don’t mind him as a forward/midfielder and as a RFA we’d get a starting 18 quality player with plenty of good years left while keeping our prized draft picks. Can we afford him and would St Kilda match our bid and force us to trade?

Will they force us to trade? All depends if they have offered him a contract. I havent heard that they have.

It would be the equivalent of when we off loaded Tambling to Adelaide.
We burnt the draft pick and Stkilda incinerated there's not picking Bomtmytelly instead of this dud.
No way. Has shown sweet fA.
Hawthorn are the club that picks up Billings types

Billings is a spud.
Billings isn't getting $600k. St Kilda and him are having an amicable parting of the ways. Low possession getting mids can't exactly hold the market to ransom.
He might be worthwhile, but I see him as someone who's likely to block Ralphsmith from getting games, or at least compete with him for them. I'd rather Hugo.

If Cerra chooses Carlton, we might be able to slip in and benefit by helping the trade.

Paddy Dow is starting to find his feet. Very much a contest/clearance player who explodes away from congestion. We could do with his type. Both parties expressed interest in each other last year.

We give our second to Carlton for Dow, they on-trade it with their first for Cerra.

I would be a little surprised if no one comes to us but I reckon it will be either by FA or even the Nankervis/Caddy type trades, 2nd or 3rd rounders, and we keep our first rounders.
There are a few around. Dunstan, Talia, Crouch as examples but I suspect it will be needs based.
I am sure Blair has been active with player agents and also that agents themselves have been in contact with him knowing we have such a strong draft hand.

Same here. I don't mind him as your third tall in the forward line pushing up the ground. He's never been surrounded by top tier talent.

A three-way rotation out of the square, half forward and midfield of Shai, Dusty and Billings would be a nightmare.

I like this.
Dow has had his knockers but he can play. From what I heard he was desperate to get to us last year. His brother gave him an insight on how differently both clubs were run.

Not sure Billings takes the spot of Hugo. In fact that would definitely not happen. Billings replaces VFL quality like Aarts.

I'd be good with this. Just starting to hit his straps at Carlton. Would be a very Carlton thing to do, get a player just starting to hit is potential, and trade him essentially for a more expensive version.

I recall you and I were hot on Billings from a year before his draft. Hasn't quite become the player we thought he would, but on a reasonable salary as a free agent he'd add to our side. I see him more of a Lambert high-half-forward.
