The Blair "Which?" Project

Article in the The Age too (online now - paper tomorrow) including .......

"Richmond, speculated as a potential home for Cerra for months, have opted not to pursue Cerra and are heavily focused on the national draft, in which the Tigers have a huge hand. The Tigers also have a tight salary cap due to contractual commitments."

If true, the good thing is that it’s reported that it was our decision - we may have felt the cost of getting him wasn’t worth it - we are not in a position where we need to sell the farm - we don’t want to get into a bidding war cause you pay overs.

Same same. What's the difference.
I can't think of one player besides Townsend that has left GwS and has become a better player.
Shield wasn't/isn't worth 2 first rounders.
Smith average
Setterfield below average
Patton and Scully thanks for coming.
Foreskin Elliot Mr invisible.
Adams. Worse kick in the league
They just seem to hold onto the good ones.
The captain might be gone to clear cap space. And may not be a WA team either.
That Jack Steele fella goes ok at the saints.

The right decision. Our premiership window has closed.
I don’t agree that our premiership window is closed. Far from it. But I do agree it was the right decision to hit the draft. We are in a very unique position with a massive draft hand despite winning 3 of the past 4 flags.

Gut feel is we baulked at the asking price. Fair enough too. Clubs like Carlton have blown up their cap chasing a top 8 spot let alone becoming a genuine contender.

I will still be shocked if we aren’t active in this years trade period. Getting two first round drafts is a sign we are after someone.

didn't Redford say we got cash?

if that's true we're just not interested in Cerra.

this also tells me we already know what we want this off-season.

list management, recruiting and on-field have been perfectly in-sync since the end of 2016 and I don't expect that to change anytime soon.

The media outlets are claiming that Lynch’s contract is backended. Didn’t we adjust contracts after Rance retired to counteract that?

Yeah, there was a lot of talk on PRE stating just that.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Don’t rule out Matt Crouch. Free agent who hasn’t played a game this year and looks likely to leave

It will be depend on who leaves us

Don’t think Matt Crouch would cost that much. When he was playing on a happy United team he was a gun.

I’m not sure if they are across contract permutations. I doubt we let them know too much publicly. I believe it’s something the List Management team would keep in-house, for future interest in FA’s and other trade targets.
They may guess, but there is always the flexibility of forward paying to bank TPP etc. It was documented Cotch and Jack had their contracts reworked at the time Lynch came in. Same total $s but spread out over a further year?
Rance may have got a payout pro rata, but he was still contracted for a year or 2 when he finished. Other players may have gotten a raise ie Balta
But contracts can be reworked. I reckon we have a couple of $billion banked :D

I was wondering about Crouch, would probably suit our style well whilst also making an impact at clearances (something we really need to do). He's a FA so no draft capital, but how much cash do you think he'd want? Maybe around $500k for 3? They might threaten to match that as it would likely be an band 3 or 4 compo (end of 2nd / 3rd)

Other interesting one was, that article from Fox Sports speculated that Dow could be traded to accommodate Cerra. Might be cheaper to get than Cerra (both draft and certainly salary cap wise) so could also be a good option. For a 2nd rounder I'd do it.

Pleased to hear we’re planning to go to the draft.

For 15 years there’s been about 6 clubs who are always strong and then there’s the rest. We’ve broken into that upper level, and Melbourne and Brisbane are trying to now, otherwise the ladder hasn’t changed much over a long period of time.

There’s no rush to do anything dramatic with the list because of “premiership window” fears. We already have Dusty, Lynch, Nank, and Dion playing over the next 3+ years, plus Bolton/Balta rising up from underneath, so that’s already 6 high-quality guns all over the park, which is enough. We only needed 4-5 to build around over the past decade. And now we have both the time and the draft picks to find a couple more quality players in the draft over the next few years. Glad we seem to be planning to build around them. We’ve seen how effective development from within can be.

I’m also pleased that we’re investing in youth. Clarko tried to go the other way and it didn’t work out that well for him and the Hawks.

Cerra's management going we want $750k Richmond going can't pay more than $600k. Cerra going $750k minimum. Richmond go ok thanks for your time we will move on.

Will see how genuinely desperate Cerra is to pull on a Richmond jumper
