Did anyone notice the lightning pickup and handball on the hff in the 2nd? Truly elite work. Solid game from Richie. Hope he builds from it

Elite work? lol. He was terrible again. Agree that he looked better down back in the last quarter and a half but he was playing a loose man and picking up cheap possessions. Then he would kick it to a 3 on 1, or a high ball to a team mate that was easily picked off. Caught so many times I lost count. He's struggling. Two choices from here in my opinion; play him off the half back flank and see if he can find some form or give him a few in the 2s to get confidence back. At the moment he is just struggling. It's not coincidence that Leigh Matthews himself commented about how many times Tambling was caught.
Thats it Goody. I will credit Richie for putting his body on the line though, he didn't shirk it. But he still spectates when close enough to get to a contest. There's no urgency to his game. I think that's what's hurting his game. Still coasting.

Re: Tambling [Merged]

To say he was terrible is pure rubbish. Solid game gave us run laid 7 tackles didnt shirk a contest. Honeslty due the fact he was pick 4 anything he does will be discredited. Some people need to pull there head in when evaluating players instead of showing disgraceful bias just because he was a high draft pick

Silly post mate. No-one mentioned where he was picked.
Did you actually watch the game? There's a bit more to a player than just getting 7 tackles. Gave us run? Give me a break.
7 tackles can mean you're committed, sometimes it means you're 2nd to the ball.
Richie spectates too much and just coasts. I don't care where he was picked. But for a senior player that attitude is not acceptable.
If, as some have suggested he's still getting over an injury, he should be getting fit at Coburg.
But I've seen it too often for too long. Last year he improved enormously. maybe it was an aberration. Time will tell.

Think everyone is past the 'youre just bias because of where he was picked' line. We all know what Tambling is capable of. All we're asking is that he give it 100%. Last night his disposal skills were not up to scratch and we know he is better than that. His awareness was terrible, which led even the great Leigh Matthews to specifically comment about it. He is flat footed much of the time, which is why he is getting caught. Doubt there are many who don't want to see Tambling as a valuable contributor for the rest of his career. But I feel he is not giving his 100% right now. For whatever reason, the issues need to be addressed and if that means a stint in the 2s then so be it. He's clearly been given many games in the 1s to resolve his issues and its not currently happening.

That's how I would sum up this thread as well. He was average last night but by no means terrible. Doesn't amtter what people say about him, it's the way posters sum up his game which wreeks of bias. In particular the call he had cheap possessions. Richie never had a couple of metres space all night. Everytime he got it was in a pack situation, or in the last quarter where he won a couple of marking contests.

He still looks slow, maybe that's why he can't get away from the packs and is always tackled as soon as he gets it - it didn't happen last year.

Not true. In the last quarter he picked up a number of cheap possessions in the last line of defence. Watch the game and then come back and comment. Most players found themselves in pack positions with many of their possessions. Difference is, others were able to get it away, Tambling was not. If you are going to struggle even getting rid of the ball with only a couple of metres of space then he doesn't belong at AFL level. Saying that Tambling did pick up 13 uncontested possessions so I would argue against the proposition that he had no space all night. The damning evidence of his lack of awareness is that he actually possessed the ball 21 times in the match but only managed to dispose 15 times. That 6 times he was caught, the most of any player on the night.

no surprises ritchie played in defence last night in patches and looked far more effective and dangerous.

a few more touches and some nice work defensively

looks like his fitness is coming back as the insiders suggested it would

Tambling started in the forward line habib. Was moved back when Hardwick heard me shouting to him to make a few changes early in the 2nd quarter. ;D

was that you????????? ;D at least he listened to you, i was sitting 5 metres from dimma and was screaming all night to put a *smile* guy on goddard

Re: Tambling [Merged]

Another nondescript game through the forward/middle that simply matches his ability.

Please play him back Dimma.

It has been soooooooo obvious for soooooo long he is best suited to playing there.

Agree. When he went back last night he looked so much more comfortable.

Re: Tambling [Merged]

Its because he needs time & space, awareness in close is terribly hard to learn.

Richie has never had it ergo the odds are he was always ging to struggle played in positions where he doesnt have that space.
Time has proven this correct with Richie.

He is very good overhead & has a turn of foot. Pre-requisites for a defender.

We are crying out for some dash back there.

Back pocket next week please Damien.

I agree. He had a good second half. has good closing speed that enabled him to spoil on a couple of occassions and committed his body to contests. He should have played on Milne from the start. Should be played in a back pocket, could be a Harbrow type for us. He had one shocker short pass but he should be instructed to run and go long, his long kicking is generally good.

Happy with Tambling's 2nd half last night, hopefully he is left in the backline from now on.

hardwick hasn't got much wrong so far and i'd be astounded if he didn't know this already.

Agree.

Looked much better when moved there. Tambling is next to useless in the middle.

Hopefully Tambling and Connors move back and release Deledio into the middle.

If Dimma can't see this then I doubt his coaching ability.

Your nearly always on the money Harold.

But reckon its time to pay your sins on Jack. ;D

Yeah I did and to trot out "did you actually watch the game" is pretty pathetic

I have watched every game this year. Even though Richie has had less possesions and given us less run this year i have noticed his defence pressure and tacking have gone way up

If he was pick 30 we would be saying how we have a good core player on our hands instead of the *smile* that gets posted about him

he was one of the main reasons for our revival in the 3rd quarter.
By the end of the qtr he was totally buggered.

They have to get him fit if they are going to play him down back or in the midfield for a full match
