Tambling (merged)

I see so you'll be bagging Tambling for at least another few good seasons. Gee I'm looking forward to it fellow Richmond supporter.

By my calculations Tambling has played 7 good games out of the last 8. Possessions are increasing, quality of possession, opposition pressure including tackling and 1%ers all improving. You can see all this statistically, you can see it on the ground. Plenty of work to do, plenty of improvement left.

As stated, yes I will keep bagging him if he keeps underperforming. In previous seasons Ive been critical of Bowden until 04 when the penny seemed to drop and the same with Richo when he forgot about all the sulking and carrying on. I got off their back.

If and when Tambling performs to expectations (and I dont mean getting voted 7th best player for 1 game) then I'll get off his back.

So tell me, are there no players on the RFC list that you don't bag?

Watched the Hawthorn game on Sunday before we played Freo. And while I agree Richie played OK – Rioli’s game in Tassie was far better. The tackle on rutten was better than any single act Richie had, and he had more of the aggot.

We need to be realistic…

Lol....people are now comparing Tambling to Rioli?

i for one have been reasonably happy with his progress across the 3 and a bit yrs.
my way of thinking is richie who turns 22 this yr in his fourth yr has to take it up a level or two no buts no excuses. i thought he was just so so the first two games and had him in the gun his game against freo was good he needs to keep it at that level and more for the entire season.he needs to narrow the gap between his best and worst so when he does have a dirty day we still get a decent contribution out of him.
richie is a big boy now and as such our new breed have to know poor performances wont be tolerated for to long..

First year in as a genuine mid rather than a fringie.
He'll have some dirty days and some good ones, next year is when I expect him to really become a consistent mid and hold that for six or seven years, maybe longer.

Not consistently often. I though Johnson's days were numbered but he's proved me and many wrong so far this season. Fortuntely I'm humble enough to admit when I'm wrong and actually wish for players to do well rather than negatively bag them all the time. Some players take longer to develop than others. Some of the best players matured late. It's improvement that you look for in a youg player, not immediate Judd status.

Humility and Goodone in the same sentence... hhmmmmm,

Anyway, I never wish that any RFC players fail. I'd be more than happy for Tambling ( or Schulz, or Moore or Meyer or many other players) fulfill their promise. The same for the litany of previous RFC players who haven't come up to scratch but history shows we haven't developed our youngsters to the required level.

A steady increase of improvement is fine but I still don't think Tambling has improved sufficiently in his 50 plus games over 3 and a bit seasons ( and I could Deledio to that too but not at the same level as Tambling).

It's like Wells at North. After 100 games they are still waiting to see the player he should be.

Hmm so you have a problem with both Tambling and Deledio. I think you're living in the past timtam. We all have a right to be cynical after such as long time but there are plenty of signs that say we are finally heading in the right direction.

If you need any proof of that just look at our game against Fremantle . Deledio 20, Foley 22, Pattison 22, Tambling 21, Schulz 22,White 21, reiwoldt 19, Thursfield 21, Edwards 19, McGuane 21. 10 players out of 22 under 22 years old yet we still walloped Fremantle by over 60 points, our biggest win over there ever and our biggest win since Rd 19 2005. Befre you say it's just one game, sure it is just one game but the signs have already been there from late last year and the Fremantle match was the first signs we've seen of a team burying the opposition to the end. I expect inconsistencies going forward, we have alot of youngsters but each game is a learning experience and we are building a nucleus that will be very competitive I have no doubt about that.

So why pick on Tambling? He has performed no worse than most of the others on that list. It's purely because he was picked number 4 that you're all over him. Nothing more, nothing less.

As for humility, as I said I am happy to comment on my errors in judgement. Best we leave personal opinions of people that you don't know out of this.

if hes played as a fingie why hasnt he dominated. either hes been poor or hes been poorly coached. personally im amazed that an under developed size wise player has not been given a run of hbf. as for being a fringie wallaces excuse was size well he was heavier last yr than he is now.this midfield crap is just that crap.tambling should be able to play a role regardless of where he is played back forward or midfield.

as for dirty days and good ones. real dirty days at the stage of development he is at should be few and far between. as i said the gap between his worst and best should be rapidly narrowing.
if he plays 2 or 3 shockers its back to coburg as a club we should not be tolerating constant mediocrity from players in their 4th yrs and beyond.. its this playing blokes after regular shoddy performances that must change we have to change the culture we have to say mediocrity wont be tolerated.

As I've said on many occasions I don't care if Tambling was pick 4 or 104, he hasn't played to his purported, and probable (possible?), ability.

The humility comment was meant to be tongue in cheek. ;)

I reckon by years end Tambling will have moved past Wells. His game against Fremantle was better then Wells game against us when he was under the pump.

Should've been dropped a week back. That would've taught him not to accept mediocrity apparently. Hopefully will be dropped shortly, just to teach him the new standards and all that.
