Tambling (merged)

He's one of many on the team that needs to put the North game away and concentrate against Mick's boy's.

I'm really crossing my fingers this thread doesn't raise it's ugly head.

I couldnt believe my eyes to read in last Mondays review of the North game how Tambling finally showed that he may justifiy his no.4 ND pick status!

Again, I must have been watching another game......

I agree with that comment. His finally starting to get more of the ball and get to contests. Showing alot of determination too. Just needs to improve his decision making. Has the speed and ball skills.

I think his decision making in space is top notch Goody, although I would like him to be more selfish and take em on a bit more. His hands and vision could be better in close, but I think its more coming to terms with the physical side of things in close that's the problem. Once he is comfortable competing physically the rest will follow I think!

Yes I agree, that's what I mean sometimes he could take them on more rather than a sideways handball for example, and yes his in-close work needs improving but he hasn't had much on ground time to experience that role in the pastt.. Guys like Tambling and Deledio have sublime skills. It something many have been complaining about year after year the lack of kills but for some reason maybe because Tambling was a 4th pick in the draft people seem to not want to give him the time to develop. I guess its all perception because I have been very excited by his progress late last year and into this year.

Picks 4 in the draft aren't the guaranteed guns that everybody thinks they are.

Buddy just happens to be the best no.5 pick of all time, that Bling's bad luck. But if you look at Bling with a bit of perspective and knowledge about the draft you see that he is average or above average for no.4 picks.

I quote Gerald Healy from the weekend's game "you want the ball in Tambling's hands, he has excellent vision and disposal"

LMAO - Gerald Healy.

Harry I’ve never quite understood why you include Bling on your bad disposal hitlist.

I love Bling’s potential but I’m not blind to his faults. On the weekend we lost several crucial clearances in the 2nd quarter when Bling appeared to be the designated ball getter and let his man get in front of him.

But once he has the ball my reading of him for most of his career is he is far above the Richmond average in vision and his disposal is pretty good. I’d much rather have the ball in his hands than anyone on our team bar Brown and Lids.

Will play his best game for Richmond tomorrow.

If he plays his best game for Collingwood even gpb won't see the funny side, Skills. ;D

It's all about hope, potential, signs etc. with Tambling - never actual performance.

Disagree I actually think his performance has been better this year.

An improvement, but still nowhere near the performance levels that his decorated junior career indicated he should reach.

Agree wtih that as well. But I just feel that type of performance is very, very close. Week in and week out.

Again - "very close", "around the corner", "about to click", "break out year".

Same things were said about Krakouer.

I hope your right but I'm not going to hold my breath. Call me cynical but 27 years of failure will do that to you. I'll tell you one thing though, if he does break out this year I will be happier than anyone. At some stage these first round draft picks have to show something and justify the investment that the club spent on them. JON is seemingly not going to do it, Reiwoldt could but looks a good player rather than a star (due to his lack of pace), Lids has star written all over him but really needs to produce and we can only hope for Cotchin to become one. Can you imagine what a difference it would make to our team if all these blokes came on like expected. Unfortunately, players personal development, and that of the club, doesn't always meet expectations.
