Tambling (merged)

Tambling didnt get a lot of the ball and what he did with it at times wasn't great but gee was he good in the 1%ers tonight. I remember a brilliant smother, smoe great tackles, and helped us to a goal at the punt rd end in our forward line when he made 3 desperate tackles and helped us to a free kick. At this point in his career I am happy for him to do the hard things. If he does that the rewards will eventually come.

From what i saw last night, he's still ho hum. Good at some points, bad at other points. He does have some skill, but he isn't showing it. Yet.

I remember a brilliant smother,

Yeah that was up there, but the highlight of his game was when he was on his own with 3 Cartoon players bearing down on him in the city end pocket, he attacked the ball, putting his head over it and got the free and from it slotted it through. Terry Wallace was pleased with his determination.

A lot of people are saying he had a shocker, so maybe I'm all alone on this one, but there was something different about how Tambling went about it last night, enough to show me that he is about to explode. Bookmark this.

For one, not sure if many of the TV watchers were able to see it, but gone were the days when Bling used to just half-heartedly chase opponents. Last night he was doing full on sprints to run down and pressure opponents like I've never seen from him before. He affected at least half a dozen kicks which resulted in turnovers and our possession.

2nd Point, he was using his pace when he got the ball which I love to see. He was bursting and weaving through opponents at times which is exactly what we need him to do. Yes, his kicking did let him down at times, but there was no more indecisiveness, no more half-efforts.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a new Richard Tambling. We are going to see why he was picked so high this year.

Tambling's work rate in the last quarter was excellent.

It was most of the night. His finishing let him down a bit but his chase and effort getting from contest to contest was superb. And also his pace getting from contest to contest, he went full pace most of the night. Just by watching his running last night he looks to have increased his runing capcity by a large margin. The effort in the pocket 3 on 1 was just about the highlight for me, he had no right winning that.

Agreed Skip I thought when he went into the middle gave us some drive along with axle I think with Bling Axle Jackson add Cogs when he gets back & Cotchin midfield is looking ok confidence is the best medicine for skill get a couple of wins & you watch the skill improve you back yourself more & take risks & the rest of the team has faith!! Next week we will see where we are at with a 10 day break & still no injuries must make it 2 in a row.

I agree with most of you. I've been on this case now for quite some time as a bloke who seems to gives us nothing more often than not.

I'm sure he's trying but - I hate driving 3 hours to see soft performances.

I was happy with what i saw of Tambo last night. A few mistakes with disposal but plenty of consistent effort and run. He's definitely improving. And I saw a lot more of that in the TV replay than i could see at the ground live. He applied a lot more defensive pressure than our number 1 pick with the horrible haircut. (what is going on LIDS? i hate Walls, but his comment about lids' hair looking like a wig was spot on).

He played much better against Geelong 2 weeks ago.

Won clearances in the centre then burst out of packs kicking for goal - just like Foley.

Bling showed positive signs last night but he is capable of being a lot more damaging, and it will happen very soon (already has happened!)

If Richie was a stock/share it'd be screaming 'buy me'!!

The graph is heading upwards, there's no doubt about that.

I thought he was terrific after a slow start (had a few mates) even though he only collected 15 odd possies.

He got from contest to contest Harvey-like.

Great signs. :clap

IMO RT is not a quality mid,

he should be played in the fwd pocket and told to chase harass and create opportunities

from what i saw last night the kid is lazy and scared, when given a rocket he pulled his finger out and tried harder but sheez the kid just doesnt work hard enough. let him earn his spot in the fwd line and get lids out of there before he rots.

brown and lids must be at HF and rotating on the ball
he worked harder than most players on the ground, you need to watch more closely next time.

did you see the smother on the wing?
what about him continually chasing opponents down?

he had the second most clearances of ANY player on the ground and as many tackles as ANY player on the ground.
also got 14 possessions and kicked a goal.
all this with only 68% game time!

Sometimes I wonder whether some people on this forum actually watch the game before they post. Yes Tambling didnt get a whole heap of the ball but what he was doing off it was certainly impressive. He ran hard, chased, harrassed etc. Defensive pressure was first class. In the last quarter he kept on Kade Simpsons tail where in the end it forced Simpson to kick it out on the full. What about the the mark he took where Richo could of sent him to the Alfred?? Lets no forget putting his head over the ball late in the last quarter, resulting in a free kick and goal. It certainly impressed Voss.
Last night showed me the kids attitude is spot on and will be a much more influential player to the RFC by years end.

I thought he showed a bit of promise, well alot really , considering his age,

Maybe we just have to stop the comparisons with Franklin, I really dont think we can achieve anything positive from doing that,

And just accept he could still be a good player for us.

I can assure people on this thread that in the near future bling will overtake lids in the fan popularity stakes. Lids really concerns me. Last night was an opportunity for him to really show his wares. Marc Murphy was superb and he was taken in 2006.

Lids, forget about the fancy hairdo and start showing your true footy talents.

I may be hard to please, but I still need to see more from Tambling. I thought he was almost invisible in the first half. And you can't take 60 minutes off as an onballer at the top level. 2nd half showed promise, but he's always had promise.

I would have agreed with you if you were talking about his first half, but credit where credit is due he played a good second half, tackling, chasing, taking a few grabs and kicking a goal. Did well.
