First it's Judd, now it's Rudd.

Both dud(d)s, if you ask me. ;D

C'mon Livo, little Johnny needs to head off to the outback and into the unknown after 30 odd years in front of our eyes.............and he can take Lou Costello's a-hole smirk with him.

Rudd's a bit raw but he seems tough and smart. All this talk about unions growing again is all garbage.

Gee, little ol' Ray has always been one of howard's favorites. What's changed?
Stop talking crap SixPack....Ray as well as Laurie Oakes are ALP all the way.

A bit of extra info for you Sixpack:

During his studies in Canberra, Rudd cleaned the house of political commentator Laurie Oakes to earn money.

The vitriol each side of the political spectrum hold for the leader of the opposite side never ceases to amaze me. With all the talkback I heard today on radio not one person stated he thought one side win but they were voting for the other. Any views given by anyone on politics are tainted with bias - one only has to read Remotes' and Livers' posts on this thread (and that is not a criticism, just a fact).

I actually can't quite fathom why Howard has become so hated. Same with Keating.

Life rarely changes a great deal regardless of who is in power but at least at the moment we have Federal Liberal balanced by State Labor.

Well that seems the great pity of it all to me Jimbob.

The battle for the middle is no democracy.

Howard,or Howard lite-Where's the choice?

Every 3 years we are given the illusion we're participating in our destinies when in effect we are just rubber stamping mediocrity. But people seem to like it that way it seems.Saves them thinking much about it i suppose.Just choose a team and hope it wins every 3 years.

It's bit like buying a membership for Richmond in way, and praying we can reach the lofty heights of 9th. ;D

It's not hard to see why Howard is hated by many:
1. Frequent lying...eg "children overboard" and then allowing Ministers to be scapegoats.
2. Appalling treatment of refugees....especially his abandoning them in Nauru
3. The Iraq war- following George Bush blindly and deliberately deceiving Australian public.
4 Unwillingness to say "Sorry" to aborigines and his general neglect of indigenous issues (until recently!!)
5 Treatment of David Hicks...don't get me started!
6 Treatment of Dr Haneef
7 Blatant political expediency (eg saving Mercy Hospital in Devenport).
8 Total rejection of the possibility of "Climate change" until recently and then half baked measures to reduce greenhouse gases through "carbon trading"....virtually no real commitment to renewable energy options. (cf Arn Schwarznegger in California).

I'm not saying that Kevin Rudd is necessarily any better, but John Howard has not earned my respect.

Paul Keating polarized the electorate, but at least he maintained some integrity till the end!

I made no comment about Oakes. I was commenting on the long relationship Howard has had with Ray Martin. MArtin has long been the pm's choice when being interviewed or to run the debates.

LOL. You left-off the never-ever GST, and wasting of our high taxes to blatantly pork barrel each election through targetted cash gifts and exhorbitant political advertising. At the same time leaving our universities and hospitals to hang out to dry.

........hang out to dry.

And the entire country drying out. What has Howard done to address the water situation during his reign, a period that has coincided with severe drought crippling the country? Social Security benefits are helping get people through but have hardly addressed the problem. The Dept of Water and Environment has done nothing but sit on their bums since it was formed.

We'll see what is garbage once he is in power, Tigerforce.
I'm looking forward to coming back to this thread over the coming months at what people have written here and what Rudd has promised them and with cliche after cliche:

* 'Working class families'
* 'Toolbox for the 21st century'
* 'Howard is a clever and cunning politician'
* 'Education Revolution'

Note these 4 cliches down and in the next Rudd interview you see on TV, count how many times he says the above...you'd be quite amazed.

All slogans....but nothing to back them up.

That's the perception Rudd has given the voting public.
We saw a snippet of the "real" ALP when McClelland simply spoke about the policy the ALP has on the death penalty in Asia.
Instead of supporting the ALP policy and congratulating McClelland for getting their policy out there in the public domain....McClelland was "counselled" and Rudd backflipped by agreeing with Howard again.
The perception is that Rudd is "me too", The Echo, or 'Howard-lite'.....but is he really?

And my question is....if the ALP policies are so great and of benefit to the Australian people, then why don't the ALP, like McClelland did, come out with their true thoughts, opinions, and ambitions...and let the public decide, instead of hiding behind the Government's policies?
And....if he is agreeing with so many 'bad' policies that the Libs have come up with, then why should we vote for him, instead of staying with Howard? and won't he backflip time and time again once in power to bring the true ALP policies to the table?

What has Howard said in relation to nuclear plants since he hit the hustings Livers?

The major parties are bereft of ideas. They will say and do whatever it takes to gain power, then use that power to feather the nests of their interests.

My disillusionment with the mainstream of Australian politics is profound.
