Talking Politics

Interesting take and the complete opposite of what I gathered when I was recently in the US for a couple of weeks. But the more striking thing I noticed was the anger most females showed whenever the election was being discussed. Visibly angry at the supreme court overturning Roe vs Wade and determined to do something about it.
It will be interesting to see which issues resonate.

I think this is the thing under estimated by the Republicans and Trump and his team know it, but they can't come out and say what the religious mob want as it alienates the rest. The article I posted above which was relating to the Iowa polls was talking about a big increase in women voters pushing for womens rights and they see Roe v Wade as a big part of that and won't be voting republicans because of that. Harris has a big lead in polls regarding women

He already has tons of evidence that this is happening. He just needs time after the election to change the dates from all the proof he had from the 2020 election. You know, all the evidence that he keeps going on about but always fails to produce, especially in court cases

Doesn't need evidence when you have a whole group of sheep that believe every single word that comes out of your mouth. Its the biggest irony around Trump supporters and their "think for yourself, don't be sheeple" attitude.

Yeah, this.

Trump supporters claiming they can think for themselves . . . it's laughable. They believe the rubbish he spews - migrants eating cats and dogs and all the rest of it. The guy who bragged about assaulting women will be their protector (whether they like it or not) and apparently will attract plenty of female votes. F Me some people are gullible. I have a lot of problems with the Dems, unlike the Trump cheer squad I take a critical view of the candidates, but also understand the nature of the voting system in the USA which means you end up with 2 choices.

But, back to the polling. It is an interesting judgement call on how you deal with the polls. Clearly the Republicans are trying to skew the polls in their favour to claim victory even if they lose and to look like they have momentum. But, this can be a big risk. If they give the impression they are going to win in a landslide then some of their supporters may not bother to vote and it could mean lots of their opponents make an effort to vote. The Democrats seem to be pushing back to make sure people don't get the impression Trump has it won already.

In the early voting it looks like registered Democrats have voted at a higher rate than registered Republicans, but that is a very inaccurate measure because registering one way or the other doesn't indicate how you will vote (there is such a thing as strategic registration).

I still reckon it is going to be close. The polling in 2016 underestimated Trump's support, in the 2022 mid-terms they overestimated Republican support. Clearly the polling is struggling to get a handle on voting intentions. But, it does look like it could be a big turn-out (at least on US terms) which would favour the Democrats.

At least the VP will not be asked to ignore the votes and declare a different result this time around.

We'll see.

American politics should be a hilarious curiosity at best for us.

Can’t quite work out the non-American weirdos (like one in here) that are passionate about it

I initially thought he’d romp in a win, but I’ve changed my tune a bit even though he’s firmed again overnight.

It should, but as the US is still the world leader of the "free" world, if they elect a deranged nutter, it has an impact the world over. Then there is the issue that the think tanks engineering Trump's popularity are the same ones Dutton uses for strategic thinking and you can see why many in Aus feel they have a vested interest in the elections.

Whatever the result, it's going to be an interesting couple of months in the US.

i caught a bit of some show about the election last night, and some woman was saying she was voting for Trump because Harris lies! What hope does the world have?!

I agree. But on the flipside I saw a very conservative-looking guy living in a conservative area interviewed who expressed my views to a T, thought trump was a crazy areshole and couldn't understand how anyone couldn't see it, let alone vote for him.

People will write books on how to mind control people based on what Trump has done over the last 10 years.

YAY social media platforms and the ability to create never ending rabbit holes and, analyse data on people to the point that machines know them better than they know themselves or each other.

If republicans lose due to getting folks into the Supreme Court to overturn roe v wade that eventually leads to that 6-3 majority getting pushed back the other way.

That will be mega karma.

In the meantime hundreds of thousands of unwanted children will be born.

Dems voters typically outnumber GOP voters when it comes to early voting. But they have had record numbers this year so who knows what the split is.

I hope they are right.

(but an Adam Khoo post holds as much credibility as a DailyMail post)
