Inflation caused by price gouging and profits as a proportion of total income rise - then there is a proposal to tax corporations more heavily. Sounds good to me.

Actually collecting royalties on foreign miners, get returns similar to countries like Qatar - sounds good to me.

You are the ones who fear deficits, so what is your solution: tax real people more, don't reduce the deficit, reduce government services?

Personally I would prefer we tax excessive profits and get way more in mining royalties.

It is just the old Labor line "Tax the rich to pay the poor ". I must be rich as I went from zero tax to $3000.00 in two years. Thanks Jim to balance my book I have had to give up my daily Guinness for Aldi specials ,charities now starts at home, daily coffee treat gone, shopping at Myers gone as know at Charity shops, no weekly raffle at RSL fly economy not extra leg room, weekly T Bone gone. Shave every three days instead of every day. No 1 haircut now. Selling off two of our 3 TV's. Would empty the pool but cannot. Sacked the lawn mowing man so now the lawns are looking like Ma & Pa Kettle's. Yes Jim does know how to look after the veteran community who worked their butts off to have comfortable lifestyle.

Does this offer assistance to you, or an explanation?

straight out of the RW Media playbook. You lot call it “class warfare.”

Did you know that mining companies have actually been paying less tax since the change of government 2 years ago under Albo? Even if you exclude the climate change debate, it’s a bloody outrage that mega mining companies plunder our resources for virtually nothing. Every Australian citizen should be outraged over this.

I read somewhere that Transurban paid 0.7% tax last year. CityLink is the most profitable toll road in the world. Its appalling.

I bet you pay a higher percentage of tax than these mega corporations. How do you feel about that?

People like me are not saying people are not allowed to be rich. That’s the biggest myth a person can say about a socialist. I have no qualms with ambitious people who wanna be successful. But if people are a little bit less rich so everyone has a roof over their heads, food on the table and access to health and education, then so be it.

You can’t let big businesses continually get away with avoiding paying tax. 1 in 8 people in Australia live below the poverty line. We are one of the richest country in the world. Its unacceptable.

Baloo always got a refund up until 2021/22. Then 2022/2023 Tax paid $1200.00 no return. 2023/2024 $2909.00 tax paid no return. Why ?.

Ask the ATO or a tax accountant. Blowing your personal tax affairs up into a huge government conspiracy is weird.

The inept and very stupid supposed ‘labour’ party assisted by old mate bowdo were convincingly capuanoed last night here in the NT. The CLP whose greatest achievement in the last 30 years was selling Darwin harbour to the Chinese won in a landslide on a lock up the black kids agenda. I was made aware of the new law and order focus this morning by a crazy woman who had a go at me for having 15 items in in the 12 items or less checkout. A sign of things to come in the fascist republic of stupid.

did you see the Labor's Kate Worden on 4 corners the other night, facilitating the free ground water rush in NT?

she was like a cross between a Shaun Macalliffe politician, a female Eddie Obeid, and someone they found living in a swag in a caravan park

I dont follow your politics, but if she's indicative of their ministerial quality,

I can kind of see why they turn to a mob whose only policy appears to be sell infrastructure to china and lock up black 10yos?

The article said the lunatic suggested taxing ANY corporations on profits earned turnover after the first $100M. That's not just mining companies, that encapsulates normal medium sized companies like mine that employ 100s of people. We're not avoiding tax, we're paying our 30% company tax and a load of other taxes like payroll tax for the privilege of employing staff and land taxes and rates on the properties we lease. When we send dividends out, because I'm in a higher tax bracket, I pay the uplift to the highest personal tax rate.

I don't know about Transurban or anyone else, maybe they have trusts where the tax is paid at the investor/owner level, headlines often sound great that x company didn't pay tax, when it's actually paid downstream. We used to be a Unit Trust, where the company paid no tax, but the owners did. Effectively we paid more tax if you were in a high tax bracket than we do now, because you paid tax on what the company made whether it was distributed or not. But you could have had a headline saying our company paid zero tax and it would be accurate. If there's loopholes, close the loopholes, but don't smash all companies, if you do what that nut Bandt suggests watch the unemployment rate go up.

How about politicians cut spending and wastage and this hypocrite, on a number of levels, could start with his private plane costs.

So yes, it is class warfare, and we already have access to health and education and with a 3-4% unemployment rate people can get a job or a second job to put food on the table. The highest earners already pay a disproportionate % of tax, we already look after, better than most countries, those that can't help themselves. Problem is many on here want us to also look after more those that won't help themselves so they can get more "free" stuff. I say they can work harder or more hours to earn more money, I know I did and still do.
