Talking Politics

If anyone still has doubts that the Dutton way is being carefully managed by the same RW Thinktanks in the US who are managing Trumps campaign, do yourself a favour and watch last night's 7:30 Dutton interview. Lies after lies after mistruth after ignoring the question and answering the question he wanted. Then when he didn't like a question, he turned it into an attack on the interviewer and the broadcaster, accusing them of bias and repeating Government lines. He couldn't have done himself any favours with anyone that isn't so far down the News Limited rabbit hole that they think Murdochs chemo'd prostrate is actually the sun.

It wasn't a good look for an opposition leader. So bad that if Dutton gets to be PM, he would do the impossible, which is be a worse PM than Morrisson, who did the impossible by being a worse PM than Abbott.
It was deplorable. The way he attacked the interviewer and the ABC was ridiculous.
He has been on Ray Hadlee’s show too much and expects an easy ride. 730 hosts have been interviewing like that since Kerry O’Brien, including many times to Labor politicians.

Which is actually pretty ridiculous when the ABC has been pretty much supporting the Albo lied line on the stage 3 tax cuts. Lisa Millar was practically frothing at the mouth interviewing Chalmers on ABC New Breakfast then noted hosts like Speers and Karvelas and others were all parroting Fox talking points.

yes it was ugly. All the questions were reasonable and the same level of scrutiny Labor cops, but its all trumped-up lefty guff according to Dutton. Pathetic on the one hand, weak as *smile*, but on the other just playing to his choir. I don't think it would have mattered what the content or the tone of the questions were, Dutton was ready with his ABC attack. Ferguson handled it as well as anyone could have, she earned her dough thats for sure.

The scary thing is that the ABC is already badly wounded, on the hop and second guessing itself from 20 years of sustained, strategic and effective coalition attacks, but it seems they will keep their foot on the throat, even go in for the kill.

Good piece on Crikey about the ALP Stage 3 changes and how the media are completely out of step with the electorate.

this was obvious when Albo announced the changes at the National Press Club, all the journalists lined up to try to catch him out on the 'broken promise' instead of actually asking about the impacts of the changes to the electorate

And whats more they will not learn from it because this has happened before.
Sadly I think you are right. But at some point they must realise that they are losing their credibility with their target market (exc News Limited from this statement) and need to rethink their reporting to get the viewers back.

It's all click bait and first to publish opinions now. It's Dutton's way of working. Says something highly clickable and doesn't care if it's an outright lie because the large media players will repeat what he says verbatim and people will believe it because it was "in the news". It's a shame we don't have an Aussie version of Politico. That seems to be a fairly neutral political media site that take their time to to give their interpretation and consequences of events without external pressure. Though some sites are calling them left leaning.

Or if you don't want opinion, but just factual reporting that lets you come to your own conclusions, Reuters is still a good news source.

WA Premier Roger "The Dodger " Cook states " no juvenile crime crisis in WA ". The dude must live in a *smile* cocoon.

I expect nothing else from the likes of Dutton.

The right wingers like to talk a tough game but they're a bunch of snowflakes when actually challenged and revert to attacking the messenger.

Pathetic, but entirely predictable.

The electorate was so cynical about election promises they didn't believe anything anymore. The "Juliar" campaign by Abbott, the campaign against " there will be no cuts to the health, education and the ABC" and so on, has created an over reaction to election promises that it is now ridiculous.
We have painted ourselves into a corner whereby election promises that become bad policy because things change cannot be even discussed.
That is not only bad governing it could also lead to very bad decisions

After the last sitting day for the week yesterday, Barnaby didn't just put his snout in the trough, he put both feet in it too, and the taxpayer paid for it.

Gotta admit that at times I've been known to be creeping down the road on my hands n knees late at night or hiding under a tree fairly *smile* faced. But I might also have been in my teens or early twenties n not being paid quarter of a mill or better a year to help run the country. Crank it up Barnaby's Juiced, live life to the fullest, or at least as full as you can get.

So you're now blaming either Joe Public or the meedjia for expecting politicians to be held responsible for the promises / lies they make to suck people into voting for them to enable them to run the country. FMD Sinnerman that's a massive cop out.

That’s not what I said.

We need to be mature enough as people and as voters to know that sometimes circumstances change.

What you said in reply is nothing more than providing proof for the premise of what I said.

If a political party made a promise that we wouldn’t go to war with anyone, I am convinced that if we were attacked and defended ourselves the opposition would say it was a broken promise.

*smile*. The Pollies you mentioned and the one you insinuated, Elbowsnkneesy had plenty of knowledge and information beforehand to modify / make alternative comments before they made their commitments. Elbows simply continued to lie over and over again to the public, regardless of whether his changes of policy would be regarded as a positive or a negative by the voters. Or whether circumstances changed that forced the " broken promises " in regard to his whizz bang electricity price cut, his super changes or the tax cuts. He and his treasurer lied, lied and lied again and again to the voters. Firstly to get into power and once in power nothing else matters other than to make into law what you think is your entitlement. There is such a thing as bringing the mob along for the ride, let them know what you are doing and why you are doing it and strangely enough. If you are doing it right the mob will carry you along forever simply because it's right n it works for most everyone. Keep them in the dark n feed em on *smile* n you usually grow mushrooms that are probably not the magic ones.
