Now what about Stonnington Council in Melbourne deleting the word Christmas in its Xmas promotions this year. Inserted Making so you lot in Stonnington a Merry Making this festive season.

Again, why do you care?

And again this is a beat up. The council has a Christmas tree, advertised Christmas events, Santa photos, Christmas carols. They put some signs up saying "Make merry" and some precious people with nothing better to do have a whinge.

We are seeing politics at its cynical best in relation to the economy.

On one side we have the LNP, forever campaigning about being better economic managers, but suddenly becoming the defender of the working class saying that the government should be spending more money on economic relief. If the roles were reversed they would be saying " typical Labor wanting to spend" !!

On the other hand we have the ALP taking all the credit for the turnaround. It should take some of the credit but the biggest single factor in the turnaround is the price of commodities, especially iron ore. Alan Kohler ran a piece on it the other night. The Treasury forecast for the iron ore price over the next few years is still incredibly conservative (approximately 50% of the current price) and far lower than where the markets expect it to be. His view is that we will do much better than the forward estimates in the MYFR and suspects this is deliberate by the government to make them look better than they are. If the roles were reversed we could be 100% sure that the ALP would be calling it out.

The theory that the LNP are better economic managers than the ALP is of course a fallacy anyway and there is a fair bit of evidence that it is the other way around these days. However there are some political games being played.
They are basically the same at managing most things. The only real difference is LNP don't pretend they have everyone's best interests at heart.

Windfall gains can make anyone look like a genius.

I think they do. It started with Howard’s battlers, they certainly make out they are for the “common man”. Never used to, they do now.

Of course the biggest period of windfall gains was under Howard/Costello with the mining boom. A period where we failed to invest in infrastructure.

By 'these days' I assume you mean every day for the past 40 years.

Certainly there have been things done by Labor that have been enormously beneficial to Australia that happened far earlier than they would have under the LNP.
Medicare , floating of the A$, compulsory superannuation, an independent central bank, dividend imputation ( bastardised by Howard/Costello) and there are probably others.
I quite like this chart on “high taxing labor” that was floating around

Is the new event a Charitable one or just a *smile* up for who is on Slippery's Xmas Card list ?.
Brodders well is it a 'smile up" or not ?.

The 2024 London Australia Day event cancelled by Slippery Smith besides being charitable event is a day that Australia promotes itself on the world stage the same as Australia Week in the US of A . Now Slippery who as Ambassador to The United Kingdom his main role is to promote Australia to the United kingdom yet he pulls the plug on the No 1 event of the yearly calendar. His excuse "it be insenstive to a few ". Since when has the Few being running the "smile" country . Maybe Xmas Day in Australia will be wiped off one year as it is " sensitive to a Few ".

Perhaps Alexander Downer (the things that batter) could pull a few strings and get the 2024 (snouts in the trough) Australia Day shindig happening again. He's over there as Rishi Sunak's immigration policy advisor.......................

You forgot to mention, not only nothing better to do, but breathtakingly stupid.

For someone who has repeatedly said they only care about things that affect them or their immediate family, why do you care so much about this?

Personally i dont really care what the Oz Embassy in England does on Australia Day.

So why are you commenting on it. Most probably because it was I who posted it. What about Anzac Day !! For it or against ?.

Will Albo succumb to Marcia's Xmas wish list ?

And you blame Israel for the Palestinians misery ?.

If you bothered to read anything being posted in this thread, you would have noted that THE ISRAELI GOVERNMENT had been sending lots of cash to Hamas over the years. LOTS!

And, most Palestinians DO NOT support Hamas.

But as I am sure you aren't interested in finding out any facts, carry on...
