If I was given the choice of how I wanted to be remembered, I'd much rather be remembered as a half decent, honest, caring bloke, ahead of being honoured to be Australian.

Funny you discussing bias yet see nothing wrong with Andrews comments. Twisted his words? Each to their own alright.
Your choice but to me a Day of Honour for Australians who believe whole heartedly that it is a honour to be called Australian.
I don't feel honoured to be Australian, I feel luckyIf I was given the choice of how I wanted to be remembered, I'd much rather be remembered as a half decent, honest, caring bloke, ahead of being honoured to be Australian.
I'm still bewildered it took to the mid-80s to change it.Tigaman must have been gutted when they abandoned God Save the Queen as our National Anthem
Because history only matters when it suits. You know what, thats fantastic. But why does it need to be January 26?
LoL good try !!Tigaman must have been gutted when they abandoned God Save the Queen as our National Anthem
Dumb Luck WTF !!. Sounds like you were in a IVF Friday night raffle at the local footy club. If you are not honoured to be An Australian why dont you pack up the old kit bag & " smile " as you depart ones golden shores.I don't feel honoured to be Australian, I feel lucky
I could have been born Palestinian or an Afghan or a myriad of others who have nowhere near the advantages we have. In the age group I am in if I had been born an indigenous Australian I could have been taken from my family as a boy. The circumstances into which we are born are dumb luck and we Australians are unbelievably lucky.
I think once you understand how lucky you are, then being decent, honest and caring comes more easily. As I get older the more I believe that those of us who are so lucky have a responsibility to those who are not.
Because our learned forefathers who molded Australia deemed it so with it being the day First Fleet landed.did you listen to the pod?

We could celebrate the day we were settled but I dont know how we could find out the exact date of about 60,000 years ago. Not sure they used the Gregorian calendar then ….Why? name another country in the world that celebrates the day it was settled? I doubt there are many (if any). January 26 is not independence day. In fact, many former British colonies celebrate the day they gained independence from the UK. Most famously, the USA.

Imagine the toys getting thrown out of cots all across Australia if we had a public holiday named using a word from an Indigenous language. They don't celebrate the day they were settled but the day the treaty was signed with the Maoris, which was signed in Waitangi, hence Waitangi Day. If you want something to back up your argument, make sure it doesn't go against your argument!!
