Talking Politics

They don't celebrate the day they were settled but the day the treaty was signed with the Maoris, which was signed in Waitangi, hence Waitangi Day. If you want something to back up your argument, make sure it doesn't go against your argument!!
The day the Maoris settled their differences so it is Settlement Day namely Waitangi Day.

I've often wondered what Australia's history would be like if the Australian Indigenous were as physically imposing and partial to warring as the Maoris and other South Pacific Islanders.

So we can't have a day in Australia because we haven't settled our differences right?
There is no difference between them or us. They tried to flood us not long ago that there was a difference but the vote said " We are One ".

You talk about Waitangi Day like its a good thing, but you don't want the same for indigenous Australians.

They have a flipping week NAIDOC week but they do not invite us. It is all about them not us.

In other words you're saying "its not about me."

This is why i expected The Voice to fail. Most people vote out of self interest. not what is in the best interests of the country.

Self interest is about money therefore no more money was wasted after the Voice went down the gurgler thanks to the self interest of No Voters.

US of A have asked Albo & Co for a Australian Naval ship to assist in the battle against pirates Houthi rebels in Middle Eastern waters. I do not think Albo & Co are to enthusiastic about it but might have to give it the nod due US Nuke Sub deal.

yeah fair enough. I mean after the almost $4 billion wasted on compensation for the French over the submarine saga, we should have been saving our pennies, right? Thankfully we have a record surplus ($100 billion more than the originally forecast $78b deficit), now that the adults are in charge.

Yet you get upset cos the Australian Embassy in England cancelled a black tie event?

If you read the article again (15 Dec) it was not going to cost the Australian taxpayer a brass razoo as the wokey Ambassador Slippery Smith was charging the Australia Day Foundation $55000.00 to hold the event at Australia House London. The Australia Day Foundation funds the event & money raised ends up in charities who are now going to miss out. A curfew of 11.00pm was also imposed so " children time to bed its past your bed time ". Gee you put up with some crap these days advocated by them who think they know best. Are you one of them ?.

Surprisingly you are wrong- the Australian Embassy- therefor Australian taxpayers- was expecting to pay about $55k to host the event. they were not charging the ADF $55k.

But anyway i still dont understand why you care. How does it possibly affect you? Why are you getting upset about it?

And anyway you and Dutton and the Daily Fail are wrong. The Embassy will still host an event, just a different one. This is a beat up about nothing.

We are seeing politics at its cynical best in relation to the economy.

On one side we have the LNP, forever campaigning about being better economic managers, but suddenly becoming the defender of the working class saying that the government should be spending more money on economic relief. If the roles were reversed they would be saying " typical Labor wanting to spend" !!

On the other hand we have the ALP taking all the credit for the turnaround. It should take some of the credit but the biggest single factor in the turnaround is the price of commodities, especially iron ore. Alan Kohler ran a piece on it the other night. The Treasury forecast for the iron ore price over the next few years is still incredibly conservative (approximately 50% of the current price) and far lower than where the markets expect it to be. His view is that we will do much better than the forward estimates in the MYFR and suspects this is deliberate by the government to make them look better than they are. If the roles were reversed we could be 100% sure that the ALP would be calling it out.

The theory that the LNP are better economic managers than the ALP is of course a fallacy anyway and there is a fair bit of evidence that it is the other way around these days. However there are some political games being played.
