Have a guess who did the initial C/wealth games costing, thats right:

Fozzie Bear Reaction GIF

I checked out the Birming-gham games costings, and they were.

Forecast of 778 million quid
Cost of 1.8 billion quid

PWC or Deloitte probably behind the numbers...

Everything always goes over budget, doesn't matter who runs the government, it just always happens. Partly because they get a quote and accept price rises.

What really p!sses me off is that government should pay less not more, they want to build more houses than any other single customer, ask for a bulk discount. Or even better, directly employ people and build i themselves, things were never this ridiculous before they started contracting everything out - the profits for all the consultants, subbies etc has to come from somewhere.

Social housing should be efficient, well built and have reasonable fitting out made to last. Build it properly and it will last.

So this.

What a debacle by Dan and the State Govt over the Commonwealth games.

The whole thing is Embarrassing, inept with significant cost for nothing.

Let alone the downside for the athletes.

Roger ' The Dodger" Cook WA head honco on news last night with this statement " Comm games aint what they used to be so why go for it". Tell that to the athletes . Actually I do think Albo & all premiers putting the Games thumbs down is just a pee poor. Revamp it .Every state could hold a sport ,no Opening/ Closing ceremony except a Virtual from Canberra. Housing built for athletes then after games State housing.

:mhihi Funny one from Knight. Just heard the Scots would be willing to take on the 2026 Comm Games.

Not really. I could send you numerous ones of these for different builders.

Thats from Henley, there are heaps of homes priced at less than $400k to build. It does depend on inclusions, but if they are social housing, I can't see how its in the taxpayers interest to be putting top of the range design in. They would be bottom of the range designed homes.

yeah,

like I said; eaveless, stapled together pine and cardboard and polystyrene shitboxes that will fall to bits in 7 years and 1 day.

you'de get much better value out of an Aldi coffin and 100mg of Cyanide

I was involved in early tendering for a part of a $20m 4 year glamorous job for a big NSW bureaucracy.

I said at the time (4 years ago)

'they'll spend $19.5m on the tender docs, fancy plans, and special project officers, they will get to year 4, have $500k left, won't have started, and ring us up trying to get some work done'

guess what?

they've spent $19.5m on the tender docs, fancy plans, have heaps of special project officers, its year 4, they have $500k left, haven't turned a sod, and are ringing us up trying to get some work done

its why Yes Minister and Utopia are so funny.

That's not how it works.

I'm across some very large scale infrastructure projects. We don't manufacture our own technology for this stuff, we have to go overseas.

There's basically a very small group of suppliers (one I used to work for) who basically say. This is how much it costs. This is when we'll do it and this is what you'll get.

There's no real alternative, as the other major players basically act the same way.

So we either pay "market rates" or don't do the work. Particularly after covid, when everyone was trying to stimulate their economies, everyone is competing for the same resource pool. It's a seller's market.

WA State seat of Rockingham goes to a by election tomorrow due to resignation of Premier Mark MGowan. Marko had 87% of the vote last election but tomorrow we will see if replacement Roger " Dodger " Cook is on the nose due to Labors recent Aboriginal Heritage laws . Labor found out after their nomination Magenta Marshall had a recent DUI conviction against her. Now in these wokey days surely we cannot have such a person representing us in Parliament .

Surely you're taking the p155.

A stapled-together pine, mdf and polystyrene ghetto in waiting, yes.

A competant owner builder could still build a decent dwelling for $400k,

But theres no way a sub-contractor below multiple layers of middlemen, an enourmous beauracracy and 3 layers of government, builds a decent quality house for $400k
Thinking it cost about $400k per unit for all them empty Covid granny flats Dan had built out at Mickelham a year or two ago. Public housing for the poor n destitute would easily blow $700k per with old mate Dan in charge.
