Lots of speculation here, getting a bit ridiculous.
Yes, bad incident, and I really don't like the fact that the soft cap gets reduced as a result. But the AFL has to do something to keep things under control. I'm sure there would be a lot of conditions on Queensland letting the AFL run its season up there.
As for not being able to run the VFL team as a result of this fine, I very much doubt it. Richmond are sound financially and are the last club who would be unable to run a VFL team. We have the most members, and notwithstanding the problems 2020 will cause, if we can retain high membership and get crowds back we should be able to ride out this storm. There are a lot of clubs in genuine trouble and they don't have the membership and crowds to get out of trouble. We will have issues, this will hurt, but it won't threaten the viability of the club.
But what of Stack?
Clearly there are issues. Stack and CCJ figured they weren't getting more games this year, had to much to drink and didn't think at all about their actions. So what should the response be? Firstly, let's just ignore this until the season ends and cooler heads can prevail. Stack knows he screwed up. We need to see what his attitude is in a few months when the excrement has stopped flying off the fan. The rumours about the playing group happy to see him leave the hub is likely his biggest issue - if (big if, we really don't know this) the rest of the players are sick of him that really would make it difficult for him to get back with Richmond. Stack is going to have to show he has grown up or there is no chance he will get an extension beyond 2021, same would apply to CCJ.
