Still giving us nothing...'cept Cups and Medals

I dunno. It's hard to see a way to beat us at the moment. Pundits are asking if we're peaking too early but I reckon we have 20% improvement up our sleeve.

"Hope to meet Richmond in the grand final and then assign someone to knock out four of their players" is the clubhouse leader at the moment.

;D

seems like only yesterday dimma said

'we wont win by 10 goals'

and now he could say

'we wont win by less than 7 goals'

I reckon we are coasting, playing an hour of decent footy a week. Danny boy will make us 4 goals better.

happy days indeed.

You know what? If some side does manage to work out how to beat us then good luck to them.
Going to the footy right now is so much fun & with a premiership already in the kitty it's the most stress free watching football I have ever felt in my life.
Impossible that it will last forever but right at this moment? An incredible feeling.

No doubt a team will come up with something that stifles us. But there's no doubt that our brains trust have already played out these what-if scenarios and know how they would adjust.

Actually, it's our coaching group that would have a better idea of how to beat us than anyone else.

thats the obvious one. but like the great Lions 2000's side (a way to go, I know, but its becoming plausible and the similarities are there), we are as tough as *smile*.

good luck bashing one of towner, grimes, graham, caddy, kmac, dusty, cotchy, nankers, vlastuin and down the line dave, let alone a few of them.

thats 10 tough *smile* with the middle name 'pain'.

we are a force to be reckoned with, an indomitable force, a force of nature, a tour de force, a force kin.

All this without the number 1 forward pressure player in the league Daniel Rioli. Boy oh boy. Wowee.

According to Kingy, we are 20% better than the next best side, but that is bad news for us because there are 15 weeks left until finals and everyone will be watching us intently trying to devise a plan to beat us. While that is true, it doesn't mean they will find one. Everyone tried to find a way to beat Hawthorn for three straight years. (Not that it stopped Wankley drooling over the prospect. He is desperate for us to come unstuck.)

How do you develop a tactic to combat extreme pressure and superior running?

Teams get numbers back in defence, A) to help out defenders, because the only thing forwards like more than a 1-on-1 is a Joe the Goose, but also B) to run the ball out when they win it back. Overlap running is devastating but can only happen if you have numbers behind the ball. The trouble is, running the ball out of our forward line is immensely difficult, because each handball merely refers the pressure to the next link in the chain. This leads to dump kicks forward, which are eaten up by our defence, A) because they are so good, and B) because they have a numerical advantage.

So, what do you do? Don't get numbers back so you have an even contest when you dump kick it? Good luck leaving Jack and co. one-out. Win contested possession and play keepings-off? You'll need elite ball winners and elite ball users and a lot of patience, because if you chip it around against us, we'll man the mark every time and slow you down to a crawl. Extreme pressure and ballistic ball movement? Welcome to our backyard.

I dunno. It's hard to see a way to beat us at the moment. Pundits are asking if we're peaking too early but I reckon we have 20% improvement up our sleeve.

Good post.

The problem for other clubs is that we play pressure footy each week and they only play it when they play against us. Melbourne, for example, lifted their work-rate enormously for our game. So did Collingwood. Both were able to keep up for a while but eventually, they stopped and reverted back to their normal game style. We just kept it up all game.

Our players expect to have to bring the heat. Castagna knows he can burn off his opponent. Lambert knows he will still be running long after his man gives up. Houli knows he will still be gliding by and running the ball late in games. Edwards knows he will carve them up with handball and dinky kicks. Rance and Vlastuin know they read the play better than their opponents.

To beat Richmond, you need to apply severe pressure for four quarters. To beat Essendon or Carlton, ten minutes might be more than enough. No-one bothers with the four-quarter stuff, except us.

The only way to beat Richmond is to match the work-rate, which is hard to do when you do not have buy-in from every player. It is just about impossible when you try to do it once or twice a year.

Effort beats skill if effort is consistent because skill breaks down under duress. Richmond brings duress by the bucketload. The crunch for the Tigers will come if the majority of teams step up and apply similar amounts of pressure. Then it becomes the standard and everyone will adjust accordingly. Just at the moment, playing against Richmond is just too hard because everyone’s usual strategies break down and no-one can match their intensity for the full game.

They are all in a bit of a pickle really. Our game plan depends on us, not on what the other team do. If our guys are prepared to be manic in their work rate for 100 minutes, then that is what they will do, no-one can stop this. They can only try to match it. So far, no-one else is prepared to be manic for 100 minutes.

Whately is a drop-kick. He so wants to able to make ninth jokes again.

Yep. So much fun listening to the 'experts' begrudgingly admit we are the best.

Callers on sen this morning complaing we haven't played any real opposition yet. Someone replied via sms "be patient, we'll get to you"

Yeah, that was quite funny.

Heh heh some goose rang up on SEN and said it was a disgrace how soft our draw was. A disgrace! He said we only played one team (Adelaide) from last year's final 8 twice next year. He sounded like he was gonna burst into tears :hihi He conveniently neglected to mention that we play Geelong twice so that is actually 2 teams from last year's top 4 you peanut :rofl

Of course Gaddy and Timmy are stupid and don't have their finger on the pulse. It took at least 10 minutes for them to realise that Champion Data ranked our draw 2nd hardest of all.

So to all the salty media types and supporters of other clubs:

"Carry on!" :hihi :hihi

I know it shouldn't but the disrespect at our club is pretty damn annoying. Every week as we rise to a new level, there is a new narrative in the media to knock us down a peg. This week it is the "Richmond haven't played anyone".

Someone pointed it out earlier in this thread or in another one.
We've beaten Hawthorn. If they had won that game (by about 43 points) they'd be on top of the ladder right now.

Walls said he checked the stats and remains adamant that he's still correct on giving 0 votes to Richmond players. Deluded.
