Steve Morris F/S

Must say I'm surprised by the pasting he has got here. True he is not the most skillful player but gee he is tough & courageous, there is certainly a still a place for this especially in our team of pea hearts.

He tried to run and create in Rance's absence -- I can't fault him for that, he was probably the only one prepared to do it Rounds 1-6.

I worry about his shoulder. But I do agree with you Carts, Rancey back should hopefully help him out.

Morris did look better against Geelong - it could be the Rance factor.

The number of times I saw Rance get across to the contest and help his fellow defenders I think has been sorely missed.

The week off should help him.

…. if only being courageous was enough. Good VFL leader at best.
I'm a fan of Morris, but I have to agree.
If we had a stronger list he'd only get a game when someone else is injured. Great courage but poor skill.

With Morris and Chaplin in our backline, ball use coming out of defence will continue to be a problem for us. one of them has to go, preferably both. Unfortunately with astbury out it won't happen.Time to give Dea a go and bring back Grimes and put Lids back at half back for some composure.

Woeful this year unlike last year which could be said for the entire backline with Rance the exception.

Still too predictable.

Needs to play smarter.

The opposition players are more than fully aware that Morris will go kamikaze style every time at a loose ball - if he misses and loses his feet, the opposition player cleans up time after time.

He is what he is - there is no more

Steve Morris played as part of a defensive unit last year and was effective.

That unit has fallen apart for this year, and so guys like Steve and Troy Chaplin are exposed.

If he plays, you just have to expect 3,4 or 5 mind-blowing bad school boy type mistakes with the ball.

If he plays, you just have to expect 3,4 or 5 mind-blowing fearless acts of team football without the ball.

It's the same with Morris, Pettard and Jackson. We just have too many of these types.

That's totally unfair on Jackson to name him with that lot. Jacko has become one of more composed footballers.

And therein lies the problem.

He's not good enough. I wish we had a coach who would clearly see this.

Not even sure he would be tradeable - maybe Brosbane with Leppa or GWS, that's about it. Roosy wouldn't touch him, nor would Longmire or Clarko

Agree. Only at Richmond. He's tough and that's about where it ends.

Horrible skills.

Agree with all that he is not good enough but why not try him in the fwd line to add some forward pressure. Keep the ball in our 50. Says it all about our coach really. No idea.

Yeah worth a try I'm sure Jack would appreciate the physical help. Would only be temporary anyway as cant finish well enough. Could be a Campbell Brown type role if he was better overhead
