Steve Morris F/S

Whatever happens - at least we've done our due diligence. If we don't F/S him, if he wants to stay in Adelaide - no loss. We had a good look at him and weren't sufficiently impressed. Professional approach.

Not sure whether true or not but worth the mention anyway, this from Richmonds board on bigfooty....only thing that stands out apart from the signing ;D is the 3 yr contract would think for a mature age 22/23 yrs of age 1 to 2 yrs would b the norm...

Hi Guys,

I dont normally post on here (cos i dont normally have much to say) but im a long time reader and have some great news.

I have it on very good authority Steve signed for 3 years with the tigs in the last few days.

Im sooo excited its not funny, no more Milney 4.7s ect ect.

Would be good if true. 3 years might be a bit too long but having said that hopefully people wont bid too high for him if at all i nthe father son bidding process.

There were a lot of stories floating around that he was interested in staying in Adelaide and Port had made their interest known as well . If that is the case you can imagine he would be looking for some sort of security to move to melbourne .

3 years does seem excessive but its just a rumour at this point .

Loved Kevin Morris as a player , hard and tough . Lets hope if his son comes over he is as good.

How does he get to sign a three year deal when F/S nominations haven't been listed yet ,.nor has any other club had the opportunity to outbid us.

You would assume it would be a contract conditional on the bidding process TM if it is true .

Yep. You would think its similar to the Houli/Grigg situation last year. We have come to an agreement provided a deal gets done to put him on the list.

not 100% sure TM maybe they've offered him a contract with morris signing a letter of intent to join RFC this all "subject to other clubs not trumping our offer".

Yes it seems true that Morris will be a Tiger - also reported that Port are not sure what Steve (Morris) will do

So we will have to nominate him by friday.

And we will know if we are sole bidders on friday,is this right.
We have to put in our nomination and bid by Friday , so i guess that's just saying we want him and what pick we bid . On Monday at 10AM there is a bidding meeting . I assume that means that we either match a bid , walk away or we get him for what we bid.

We say we want on him on Friday and he agrees (or before Friday of course). He can choose the main draft instead.

Then on Monday there is the bizarre scence of going through each pick (1, 2 ... 40 etc) until someone effectively says stop (to shortcut it they can ask which- if any - clubs intend to bid). If someone says stop at pick 32 we have to decide to use our NEXT pick or not. If we say yes we get him for whatever that is (36-ish). If we say no the club that said stop gets him for their bid (32). If no one bids we get him for our LAST pick.

The same process applies from now on to NSW and QLD Academy players. The 4 Northern teams can sign kids into a training academy from very young ages (10, 12 etc) and develop them. Then they can bid on them using exactly the same formula.

Hopefully someone bids for him after pick 37 (2nd rounder) effectively meaning we get him for our 3rd rounder. That would be the ideal result.

Pretty complexed.

So could anyone have got ablett JnR ????

Rules have changed many times. Ashley McIntosh was the last-pick era. Little Baby Jesus was the 3rd-round era. Now we are in the bidding era. They changed to bidding largely because Tom Hawkins was seen as too big a bargain (took a while to prove that prophecy though).
