Hopefully someone bids for him after pick 37 (2nd rounder) effectively meaning we get him for our 3rd rounder. That would be the ideal result.

The nuisance is that Adelaide and Port have picks just before us. You are hoping for a North Melbourne to be interested. Then as you say they bid 37 and we get him at 50. With the Adelaide clubs just before us we basically pay whatever price they would have (if they bid of course).

I was thinking about this too before. If the club didn't rate Morris around that mark and liked other prospects better at pick 37 you'd hope even if an Adelaide or Port did bid they wouldn't "reach" for him. It is tricky though because they would've already half agreed to pick him up. If he gets to stay in SA though where I presume he's pretty settled I don't think he would care too much.

Very messy, very bitter at the time.
He got his reward by playing in a losing Collingwood side in 1980 Chiang Mai

Still loved him as a player . Built like a brick .....

Rules have changed many times. Ashley McIntosh was the last-pick era. Little Baby Jesus was the 3rd-round era. Now we are in the bidding era. They changed to bidding largely because Tom Hawkins was seen as too big a bargain (took a while to prove that prophecy though).
Jason Cloke was the 2nd-round era. We knew he wasn't worth it and got Coughlan instead. By the time it came to Collingwood to cough up for Trav, the 3rd-round era was upon us. How history might be different, if it were consistent.

Also we overlooked him for Coach when Northey left, probably unjustifiably.

not 100% sure TM maybe they've offered him a contract with morris signing a letter of intent to join RFC this all "subject to other clubs not trumping our offer".

Thats what it would be.

Ok maybe hes signed an agreement to come to RFC if the club can wangle it, but exactly whats all the hype about.

Even i am getting keener on this kid from 3rd party hype and palarvour and i know nothing about him, BUT on the other hand with the history of Ferrals getting emselves into states of near orgasm over duds i will see what happens hopefully the talk is on the money and the kid will add a dimension if he makes it to Punt Rd..

Did we ? I didn't know that .

Kevin Morris was an assistant at Essendon to Sheedy for a while wasn't he ?

A letter of intent to nominate him father son I can almost understand, but it seems irrelevant, what's the point of a letter if we only want to use a fifth round pick yet someone else offers a second round pick.
As long as he's put himself up for the draft, we are able to nominate him father son, it's up to him whether he accepts the F/S or opts for the draft which automatically makes our F/S invalid. Then it's just open slather if someone wants to draft him.
If Morris has never been on an AFL list before wouldn't he be subject to the standard AFL two year contract at the set rates for first or third round draftees, so how can he sign a three year deal?
Someone suggested we may have signed an agreement similar to the Houli deal but as he was an out of contract player he had the option of putting a price and number of years before opting for the PSD and virtually guaranteeing his position, it's a different scenario to F/S and the Nov draft.

A player can nominate terms, but very few do. Occasionally some guys in the first few picks, or a guy like Luke Ball.

If Morris had a few clubs in his ear to have him nominate he might have said to Richmond "I will agree to F/S on the basis of a 3 year deal and will submit modfied terms, if you don't agree I will nominate for the draft in the hope I stay in Adelaide and don't have to pack up my life". Richmond agrees, he fills in the form for modifed terms etc etc.

Alternatively it is all b/s and we aren't even interested and it is just idle gossip.

I really hope we get this kid with one of our very late picks and no one bids. Is anyone other than the RFC likely to bid for him? Was he a stand out this year?

Just as the second coming of Jonno Brown, Shane 'morro' Morrison nominated terms and put a price on his head.

I think so but he was Northey's right hand man at Richmond.

Kev Morris was 2nds coach in 95, I certainly remember that. I was a trainer that year and the only thing he said to me for the whole year was :
"who are you?"

Somehow I reckon all three would still be playing if the tigers drafted that weird lot.

Has Morris been on an AFL list before? I 'm pretty sure only uncontracted / previously listed players can nominate a price, first timers just take whatever the AFL gives them.

Wouldn't surprise if most of it is just B/S and idle gossip.
