Wouldn't Dea have the speed, stamina and agility to match Betts ? May not have the footy brain yet.

speed and agility yes

stamina with dea is a big big problem

Betts will kick goals if he gets enough good opportunities. The key is the midfield and the pressure on the ball carrier coming in. This is where we have been killed by the Bloos in the past, the ball has come in too quickly and too cleanly and Betts etc have had too much space. We need to at least break even in the midfield and we need to stop their run off halfback.
That's easier said than done I know.
I wouldn't be writing off Morris yet. There is a lot to like about him and he isn't the only player who has duffed some kicks in the pre season games, there have been plenty from all clubs. At least he will give the Carlton small forwards a contest and make them know he is around.

Last year White took Yarran, who was being touted as going to have a massive season, to the cleaners. I wouldn't mind seeing White start on him again.
And Conca did a fine job on Gartlett.

I'm surprised so many have left Matty out of their Rd 1 teams. I reckon he'd be particularly handy against the Blooze.

Conca's job on Betts / Garlett cost us that round-1 match last year. All for educating a player but he was inept in the backpocket. We would have been better off with 17 on the field. Conca came good, but not playing on the last line of defence.

I cant recall Conca ever matching up on Betts last year. And I dont think he cost us the game that night by playing on Garlett.

Are you sure you are not confusing it with the following week when Conca played on Milne?

And that one too ;D

Yeah was both games. Morris and his hatred of being beaten one on one won't have been lost on Hardwick. Betts gets out the back a bit to look good and I think Morris might just be OK on that score.

Could have something to do with years and years of mediocre performances.

Now i know why Morris did not play against the Cats he had his brothers wedding on the sat night.....hence why he didnt make it also to family day yesterday, expect him to be in the side V GWS this coming weekend...

After Lids I will be watching Morris very closely against the GWS. I want to see some polish out of the backline. Also the fact we are playing a better team should mean he has some more options up the ground to kick to which should make him look better. I'm hoping for a good showing, as I still like him for Betts round 1.

Is that game on fox?

Of course I haven't seen the game but Steve had pretty handy stats in Canberra last weekend.

26 possessions at a respectable 81% efficiency. 8 marks. 2 inside 50s. 3 1%ers. I behind. 84% time on ground. 90 dream team points. It seems like he's a ready made player who'll slot in straight away.

81% efficiency is pretty good. Perhaps not as bad a kick as had been made out?

He will play round 1.

Manic tackler, quick, knows when to leave his man. Lacks a little polish but his tackling and pressure are exactly what we need in the back half.

Not sure how relevant dominating kids at a scratch match in Canberra is compared to having Garlett & Betts harassing him everytime he gets it with 70,000 people screaming at him.

I don't get the relevance comment. Are you suggesting Steve's not up to handling the pressure?
