Steve Morris F/S

Pretty funy stuff there on Roar Vision.

Apparently Todd Elton farts alot and Jayden Post is just "weird".

that worries me more than anything, especially after Post mentioning he needs to try and "gel" with the boys a couple of times in his interview, hopefully it's all just good humoured *smile*-taking..

Wouldn't read too much into it.

In Newman's SEN interview he said he expects Morris to come into the team. This is what I'm wanting to hear as he looks like he has all the skills to make it.

I think this kid could help us defensively enormously.
A few worrying about a couple of unusual scrubbed passes but I think his general disposal is fine.

A few things I noticed. The chase on Steven Hill. Most players have no chance of catching him so Hill would run to 40 and shoot on goal. But Morris' pace forces a 60m shot which is cleared easily. Also, the front on tackles from stoppages in our defense which have hurt us in the last few years, looking forward to see him in forcing more pressure in those scenarios. Hopefully he can help reduce goals from stoppages inside 50m.

BTW... watch Ballantyne knee Morris in the back after they almost hit heads. I'm not surprised the MRP missed it seeing they only report the things the commentators talk about.

Good pick ups Juffa. I love how Morris doesn't even react to Ballantyne sticking his knee in his back. Ballantyne then shoves him as if to let him know it was me that kneed you and nothing from Morris.

Yeah tough as nails. It's why I wouldn't mind him in Round 1 against Betts or Garlett.

He has more pace than I thought .

Definitely something to work with.

Not a bad pick-up as it cost us just about nothing.

He will play better with better players around him. We were missing around 14 of our best players in the 2nd half.

It actually cost us a shot at Devon Smith, in saying that, I'm pretty sure the Ellis/Morris combo will prove to be a bargain.

Absolutely loving the way he goes about it. Maybe a little Rance-like in that he doesn't seem to have any regard for his own personal safety. But then I like the idea of an unknown quantity and the pause it will give the opposition.

Can't question his attitude, hardness and speed. The big question is his kicking. And i don't think it's at AFL standard. Three of the back six are ordinary kicks and not great decision makers which makes things worse - Rance, Grimes and Post. Moving the footy from deep in yhe backline is often the platform for forward entries If we can't hit target then the wheels will come off. For that reason I don't think he should be in the team.

kicking seems a concern at this early stage

Very hard to improve a players kicking.
I hope its just nerves or pressure effecting him.

Morris has played two (practice) games at AFL level. Two.
I think we need to cut the kid a bit of slack adjusting to the pace.
Despite some errors he hasn't looked out of his league yet.

I think he'll play against the Blues in round 1.
Big test for him against those Carlton smalls.
Hope he does well.

No, just think some are raising some valid concerns on what appears a weakness in his makeup.

Its OK to do that isn't it?

Sure but it's a pretty small sample to work from especially from two early season practice games.
We'll get a better idea of whether that's a legitimate weakness when the real stuff starts.

Given we got Ellis and Morris for essentially dropping down a pick in the draft order, I'd say we did well out of this even if Steve doesn't pan out.

We can only break even on him, or win.

That is my kind of scenario.

Couple of things I think he brings is pace, hardness and at the pill and a total lack of respect for his own welfare. The way he throws himself at it disrupts the opposition easy possessions in their forward line and will cause a few forwards a headache in more ways than one. Hopefully he plays round one and lines up on Betts who likes it as easy as he can get it, Betts will be stuffed at 1/4 time after chasing Morris around and wearing a few decent tackles.

Would love to see him line up on milne too, Milney will be a little smart for him in his first season but if we can limit the good supply to him, Morris will touch him up in the rough stuff.
