Am following all this from a distance and didn't see the game.
But just reading The Age online report by football writer Michael Gleeson who lists
"BEST: Richmond: Rance, Grigg, Deledio, Ellis, Riewoldt, Cotchin, Martin, Morris"

Morris can do no wrong, even when a reporter pulls a few random names out of a hat, he's one of them.

Morris must of slipped him a 50.

He had to be on the *smile*. Either that or he got Morris confused with someone else. Did anyone listen to MMM? If they were still doing their worst on ground it would be a toss up between Morris and Yarran. Yarran effectively gave us a goal, so he may have just shaded Steve there.

morris definitely better than newman
doesn't mean much...but just saying....at least morris has speed and can put on pressure.
whereas newman is slow and just ambles

Is Morris really quick? I thought he was, but he seems to be unable to make a contest or catch an opponent with a tackle. Does he just look like he's running fast?

He has Nahas Syndrome CTT. Legs pumping away, but doesn't actually cover the ground quickly.

He got into Yarran's head all night, so well done defensively, but we simply can't play people up forward who don't contribute to converting I50s to goals.

That was exactly what I was thinking. Nahas always made it look like he was doing a lot, but then when you looked at the stats post game he really hadn't done much at all.

Played a terrific game according to Dimma on SEN this morning .

Surely taking the *smile*, he must have something over Dimma, plays crap & dropped, plays crap & gets back into the side, plays crap & gets the coaches approval ???

I must have been at the wrong match last night . I like Dimma as a coach but if he comes out with saying crap like that about Morris is bewildering .

Morris's kicking disposals against Carlton in two full games of footy this year equals ZERO. Surely that's an AFL record?

If it's more than just publicly backing his players, and Morris is set to keep his spot, then I think this would have to be his logic:

- Our #22 player had 3 disposals, keeping the opposition's #3/#4 player to 9 disposals. WIN
- Alternative was to play McDonough as #22, who probably would have about 16 touches, but at the cost of Yarran having 25 touches.

I'm not sure he's weighing up the cost of carrying all 3 of Morris/Gordon/Newman in the forward half of the ground and how this impacts that last kick going into 50.

If he's going to persist with Morris, then he must be the ONLY forward that's not creative, effectively giving us a 5-man forward line with 1 tagger. As a team, we're breaking down at half forward like a bottom 4 side because we have a bottom 4 half forward line.

Yarran's only had 25 touches once this year. Has had more than 20 only 3 times. I would have had no problems if he had his game average of 16 abd minding McDonough instead who we know can at least manufacture something and be creative and get disposals. Part of defensive forward pressure is the quality of your forwards and how closely the opposition needs to check them. As we've seen many times this year the opposition has zero respect for Morris and happy to let him wander around like a lost puppy.
