Steve Hocking

Whether Gil believes what he says about SHocking or not is in some ways irrelevant because in the end the only group who matter are the fans.
AFL footy doesn’t exist without the fans going to games, watching TV and buying merchandise.
I have never seen as big a disconnect between the fans and the AFL and if those at AFL house ignore that they are making a big mistake.

I would love to see a member based survey to be run by the clubs (and I think there is also a growing disconnect between the AFL and the clubs too) with a very simple survey, including, do you have confidence in the direction of the AFL. I would expect that to be a resounding no across the board and clubs should then push for a vote of no confidence in leadership to push Gill. AFL house are destroying the game, the fans can see it, but AFL house seems to not see what supporters are. Any decline in attendances / tv viewings are dismissed as purely Covid, and it will come back, but I think as you say there is a growing discontent around the whole AFL community into the direction that the game is being moved into.

Have you seen the Facebook post from the AFL about Hocking leaving?
Hundreds of posts and I could not see one positive post about Hocking.
Hate to be the admin, a lot a work trying to keep it clean.
I reckon we have special reasons to hate Hocking, but I'm actually surprised at the level of vitriol from "neutrals". I guess the Big 4 make a lot of noise when none of them is playing finals.

Good *smile* riddance
Hope most of his changes are reversed as he’s almost singlehandedly destroyed the game

speechless that the doofus is able to ramshackle the great game then step into the top job at the toilet by the Barwon ...
.... they deserve each other ...

it's weird that on top of Covid, which separated many from the game, that they continue to find ways to turn the game further away from its roots and into a lukewarm version of itself. You'd think AFL house would be doing everything to re-engage with the fans, not act like some inbred autocracy

Big chasm in the regard for Hocking held by the syophantic media and the general football public. Not surprising I guess.

Watching Blobbo and all the footy shows tonight blowing wind up his arse about how good a job he has done, makes me want to throw up! Do they have any idea what the football public think?
Something happened this year that is quite disturbing in the reporting on the game. It appears the message is almost totally controlled by AFL house. Perhaps its a purely financial thing? Those in the media rely on the AFL for their revenue, its challenging times and they don't want to jeopardise their income stream? The AFL have never had such little scrutiny. Are those in the media so far removed from the average fan they don't feel the vibe?

Kermit must cringe inside every time he says its footy from all angles at the start of his show.

Non richmond fans may be surprised to see this forum's vitriol considering they won the flag (after a 37 year hiatus of mediocrity) a month after joining the afl as operations manager, & then another 2 flags following in 2019 & 2020 (3 flags in 4 years of his tenure). Says a lot about the bloke: #Shocking

Now I know how to *smile* pussy supporters off if they fluke a flag this year. Now that SHocking is back there, their flag will have an asterisk next to it this season. See how they like it :)

Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that

Jordan Kounelis and Val Febbo on SEN1116 giving Hocking a massive serve. Fantastic. To quote Val (Tiges man), “I’m wrapped he’s gone.”

Hah hah hah. Jordan is pretty balanced but even he acknowledged it’d been a rough ride with Hocking for footy fans.

Lot's of talk in the media about how people have lost the habit of going to the footy with COVID etc.

Well, if they want to get fans back, I have a novel idea: stop pissing the fans off and make it attractive to come to games again.

Wrecking the game, charging too much for entry, f***ed up ticketing, it all adds up and people are being turned off by so much of what the AFL does.

Just about everyone seems convinced that the AFL wants all games to be reserved tickets only, no walk ups, they will kill the attendances if they persist with *smile* like this.

They will be lucky if they can get the fans back after restrictions end, let's see if the crowd for Richmond v Collingwood can get over 20K - a ridiculous question even last year when everyone wanted to get back to going to the footy. But they have made it too hard and not enough incentive to go.

I no longer go to games due to the following reasons. (I havent/wont go this year) - member.

-the umpires
-the changing of rules
-ticketing (not knowing, ballet etc)
-cant sit where you want
-the weather on occasions
-the ease of watching on the couch with beer in hand
-my kids arent really watching this year (not sure why) more keen on soccer and basketball atm.

On the bottom one, maybe because they have seen 3 flags in 8 years. They are content.
Although the boy was very angry when he woke up to find out we only scored 22 points for the entire game 2 weeks back.
