Actually I don't always agree with Thomas but he made some pretty interesting observations in that series of whacks he delivered. .....

Intresting article on Grant Thomas.
Was sacked on the rquest of the AFL as he ridicule the AFL too much

AFL and the Federal govt are an elitist boys club. They both make me sick and leave me with a feeling of hopelessness that nothing will ever really change.

, not act like some inbred autocracy
No acting required. Every time I see baggy eyes Gilligan n SHocking in the meedjia, I hear dueling banjos in the background n someone singing Soooooooeeeeey, Sooooooeeeeey.

Thomas pretty much on the money...like the salary cut question.

But he is wrong on centre square introduction. Was to stop congestion at centre bounces. Nothing to do with glue pots.

Next thing they want to ditch is Thursday games. Your team plays Thursday then the weekend games are just a yawn. Tigers played Thursday 01 July now 10 days later on Sunday 11 in the arvo at 04.10 pm. By then I have had enough of footy even if it is the Tigers playing.

Not that it matters now, but our fixture has been all over the shop.

12 days - 1
10 days - 2
9 days - 2
8 days - 2
7 days - 1
6 days - 7

Long breaks increase the likelihood of a short break following.

Every time I see baggy eyed Gill I picture him as a corporate flunky who doesn’t really even like football, and is there because it’s the corporate gig he just happened to land in, where as it could have been any number of things; CEO of a large finance company or whatever…

He sits there in his office smoking joints using a quellazaire, spending his days scrolling through the Sotheby’s website and daydreaming about polo.

Let's not forget this - probably the lowest ebb the game has seen.

I had one foot out the door even then and boycotted the St.Kilda game.

They might as well have put a ‘Newspeak’ logo on the back of their vests.

Perhaps they will tell us when and how to cheer on the LED screens next.

7 day break, its a normal week
Thought so. Even though the "break" ie non playing days total 6.
Taking it to a ridiculous level if we played two days in a row that would be classed as a one day break. Appropriate that something illogical is on Shockings thread.

Nice summation of Gill , but at least you can imagine him doing an exec job in another industry.
Shocking would be lucky to earn 10% of what he does and will in footy in any other industry.

Luke Beveridge. Don’t mind him. Not afraid to speak up and apply common sense where the AFL’s *smile* antics are concerned. In a slap in the face to Hocking, heard him saying the other week that “nobody can tell me that any of these rule changes have improved the game to any great extent” or something to that effect.

He’s had a crack at the AFL a few times in recent years (and a few coaches as well) about the endless and mostly non sensical rule changes. Wants the game to be left to breathe a bit.

Sorry to snip your post Red but I hope the incoming replacement doesn't let the game breathe a bit & winds the dumb arse rules back.
I know there's eff all chance of that happening with this stubborn administration under Gil. The new guy will probably want to put their own stamp on it & bring in even more rules...

Maybe Time Out Subs sic TOS. ..This will occur when a Coach deems that one of his players is a waste of space on the paddock so he can drag him off & replace him with a TOS from one of the six TOS'S sitting in the dug out . A TOS sub can only be used once a quarter & a Player dragged can not come back on as a TOS later on. There will be no change to current Interchange system & Medi sub.

Ideally the new guy does decide to put hi own stamp on the game and does so by winding everything back 5 years. If he's got balls he'll reset the rules to 1990 and watch what happens to the game for a couple of years before considering a tweak. This game is like an Egyptian Mummy. We've wrapped ourselves up in some many rule changes on top of previous rule changes that we're no longer capable of seeing what the original game was like.
