State League Recruits

Leysy had a look at Mirra against Coburg a couple of weeks back after Bob gave him a wrap.

Looks a really neat player. Footskills excellent. Really really good. Just on that game, does he lack a bit of urgency at times?? Tough to say that on one performance though.

As a player comparison, maybe someone like Garrick Ibbotson would be closest to leysy on that game.

You'd be looking for him to play that role that Gwilt, Drummond, Suckling role. As an absolute best case you'd hope he'd be good enough to take Lids role with us to release him to the midfield.

Does that sound about right?

Roundabout way Leysy. Reminds me of Marty Mattner. Think he would play a bit shorter then those you listed.

Best case he takes Houli's role, who has taken Lids role and becomes that second kicker from Halfback. Roundabout but yeah. ;D

We could do a lot worse to give him a go late in the draft.

Fair enough. Thought he looked a bit taller than his 186cm that leysy just looked up. Still you'd hope he could play on both talls & smalls.

Agree he could well be worth a shot. Looks to have a game that will translate well to AFL level.

Actually, you may be rigth Leysy. He does play tall.

Could play the Andrew Mackie role.

Not sure if it's been mentioned here but has certainly been discussed on the Coburg thread . We could do a lot worse than drafting Willie Wheeler from Coburg . Just keeps on getting the ball and his ball use is pretty good . Still young as well .

I would expect him to get drafted by someone this year .

Another Cam Pederson floating around at Casey.

Tim Mohr, 195kg 98kg backman with pace.

Will go. Not claiming him as someone I have found because his name is out there. But it just shows how much is out there in the State Leagues.
Reinforces my view that there is no need to hold onto to long term glass half full types.

Will definetly picked up. A lot of clubs looking at him, he was in jacks draft year so would be about 22 now.

I was going to ask about him. He was in a write up in the H-Sun a couple of weeks ago. Sounded a good type. Have you seen him play? ANyone pay much attention to him on Saturday?

Yep there are plenty around. Some on here talk about the "weak" draft & the best thing to not have another good deep prune of our list. It is utter nonsense.
Tripe.

On ST's question on Wheeler, he is certainly in the mix. Leysy loves players that are clean one touch footballers like him. It buys a player time that others dont get.

To further the first point leysy made, Wheeler is already a better player than a host on our list, has a better scope to improve & is younger than most too. & this is just looking at our club Coburg.

Gives a good example of whats out there around the country when one is right on your doorstep without even looking...

That's a really good observation actually . Wheeler is very clean around the stoppages at VFL level , seems to never fumble the ball . Whether that translates at AFL level with the extra pressure who knows but he's worth a shot for sure .

:clap :clap :clap :clap

It seems so bloody obvious we should try someone who hasn't had a crack before over someone who has and isn't up to it.
If they are no good u turn them over in 2 years. Fact is we have so many average players we could cull this year that next year there is still alot left for the super draft. Each year you pick up 2-5 good players and eventually you are only culling 3-5 off your main list each year.

Keep turning them over Tiges.

Will probably only make minimum 3 changes :help

I think this is one ability that definitely translates to the higher level - after a period of adjustment has been gone through - and is a talent that we need more of desperately.

Scoop do you know much about Jarrad Boumann. 196cm 90kg 22 year old key back. Currently playing for Box Hill Hawks. Was previously on the Bulldogs list. I have heard from a Hawk supporter mate of mine that he has had a pretty good year.

He is a super athlete. Didn't really understand the game when he was on the Bulldogs rookie list. But he has put on a lot of size in the upper body since going to Box Hill. Has great closing speed. All the Box Hill backs run hard when they have the ball. Boumann is the same. And can get involved in chains of play. He may get another shot. Again, another type that I wouldn't mind having on the rookie list. They are out there.

Thanks for the feedback Scoop.

No doubt that there are state league players out there who could easily step up to the AFL. Nothing wrong with giving a guy a second chance. Some players just arent ready for the AFL at the age of 18.

Big Pass for leysy.
