I also question how many talls we went in with, nothing was going to affect the end result but our structure was all wrong for a game we decide to bring him in for. Too top heavy.

I actually thought the backline structure looked OK with a big FB down there. Certainly allowed us to free up Thursty to quell Milne, which prior to the match I would have thought was not a great move but Will did very well. Having the big body down there allows us to throw around our match-ups a little more.

What we lacked though was effective rebound out of defense (allong with our midfield pressuring the opposition ball carrier). We really need Rance to step into this role. If he does, then we can go with a big bodied FB (not saying that should be Silvestor OK, would like someone with better speed off the mark) and we have the makings of a very nice defensive unit.

I think we should keep the backline like this for a few weeks to see if it can work for us.

is slyster john manton? yes

looks like john manton is back, slow fat and just sets up back 20 years. what other defender in a decent side is that slow and awkward. get him out with graham and edwards

Re: is slyster john manton? yes

Silvesters career tally of games for the RFC will be 2.

Rance in for him next week and Matt White for Foley.

Re: is slyster john manton? yes

after the first quarter he was ok. i didn't like him up forward

Re: is slyster john manton? yes

thats right lets pick next weeks side without knowing what they will do tommorow in the ressies, bring back brown simmonds just so i can jump off the west gate

Re: is slyster john manton? yes

NO...just one more dud to pull on the yellow and black in the last 20 odd years...only adds to the watering down of the proud tradition!

Re: is slyster john manton? yes

We're trying to pluck another Jamie Shanahan - started at the same age and played ~160 games.

Would keep playing him for now. Nahas had a slow start but has come on OK. Also gives us flexibility to look at Thursfield/McGuane/Moore in different roles.

Re: is slyster john manton? yes

Pack his bags and send him back to the VFL FFS, never had it and never will, what a disgrace and embarasment.

Where's that thread praising Sly to the big time. :hihi

Re: is slyster john manton? yes

If we didn't have one of Moore/McGuane/Thursfield I would think it would be necessary to keep playing him. However with Post/Rance starting to get games and we're already playing 5 KPD's a game (why :-\?), I think that he just doesn't have a long term future on our list. If he was the VFL forward of the year he would be much more wanted. :p

Re: is slyster john manton? yes

Back to the Burgs for the Cat.

Not quite up to the level, and with Moore, Thursfield, Rance, McGuane and Post, there is simply no room for him.

Far more important to get another 8 games into Rance and Post before the year is out.

Re: is slyster john manton? yes

His kicking has been good! At lot better than some other backmen I could mention. He needs to improve, sure, but I thought he was better this week than last.

Re: is slyster john manton? yes

Wasn't as disgusted with his performance as some. Geez, I'd certainly hate to play FB for Richmond atm!

A little patience is required. Who's to say he's not another Presti? We have a few more wks to find out.

Another flogging. Geez, how long are we going to go with this bloke?

Unreal. I am sure the excuse makers will come out in his defence.

Opponents averaged 18 goals against us in the first 12 rounds before getting 13 & 15 in the past two, despite the spearheads getting a bag, which suggests the other forwards are finding it tougher. It's not hurting us too badly ATM so might be worth persisting with him for a little while to see whether he can improve.

Edit: Scratch that, the average was 16 goals. It's still not killing us though.

Yep, sadly the comments of Double D and Tigerbob r ringing true.

Too slow, not enough urgency and not talented enough. A good VFL player but clearly not up to AFL level.
