Silvester (Merged)

what annoys me is that we have spent 5 years developing McGuane, Moore and Thursfield into a good defensive unit that work well together.

We had stopped tall forwards from kicking the big bags of goals.

Then we throw Silvester into the mix who had failed at senior practice match level the last 2 years. The bags of goals come back.

Silvester tries his best but he is either not tall enough, not quick enough or both. Compare him to Mcguane who is quicker and taller and your selection decision should me made.

I also think Rance is a good prospect and fits into the structure better.

The flip side is that other dangerous forwards are getting better opponents. Keeping Porplyzia to one shot at goal is commendable, and last week Milne went scoreless for the first time against Richmond at his favourite haunt.

Silvester is sooooo slow, he was beaten to the ball all night long by Tippett, and just comprehensively beaten overall. I can't see a future for him in the AFL, and to be honest, it puzzled me in the first place as to why he was selected last week. Not only that, but everybody was crowing about how well he played on debut despite the fact that Koschitzke kicked 5 and was close to Best On Ground. Same for Post too, not up to it atm. I was at the game last night.

It seems to me a few posters got stuck into Jarrod's selection before the game, based on their superior knowledge from observing Coburg, but he did enough to warrant being given a go at the big time. Better than letting a player go without ever trying them out.

:rofl :hihi :cutelaugh

How bout you get down to coburg then, spend a few weeks watching, and then tell us your opinion. Instead of being jealous that there's people who care enough to go down, have a look, and let you know how folks are going, maybe you should embrace the fact that there's people who care enough to do it.

People who go to Coburg don't take any joy in saying this player isn't good enough to make it. I'd say we hope every single player makes it, but that's not realistic. It's better to point out when a player has deficiencies, and isn't going to make it, than watch a kid get 5 goals kicked against him 2 weeks in a row.

I very rarely say that I think players are not good enough to play at the highest level. Usually I tend to argue it is the utilisation of the player, psychology, or a gameplan that doesn't work. Sadly, after watching Silvester closely last night (for 2.5 quarters I was 30m away from him) I think he is simply not good enough. Certainly not fast or agile enough to be a defender at this level.

Another flogging. Geez, how long are we going to go with this bloke?

Unreal. I am sure the excuse makers will come out in his defence.

He's had 8 quarters at AFL level and the 'how long are we going to go with this bloke has started' the next 8 weeks has nothing to do with winning games, it's about seeing who can cut it and who can't. Rawlings is giving the cat a chance to show that he deserves to be on the list in 2010 and yeah so far he hasn't shown much but at least he's trying him and at different positions. Give the bloke some time to find his feet, he's had 8 or 9 goals kicked on him in 2 games, in the position we're in I say 'so what?' he would have already learned a hell of a lot from the last 2 games so why not wait until after round 22 to put the boots into the bloke. If he's not there next year then so be it but at least the clubs actively finding out what these guys can offer.

Credit to Rawlings for at least having a look at him. If nothing else we won't die wondering will we. I'm quite hapy for the blade to continue having a look at whats at Coburg.

I think, if we're going to try kids out, I'd be putting Rance or Post in at CHB, Thursfield at Full Back, and McGuane on the next tall. Get the kids who are going to be around, used to their positions. Silvester is not even a long shot, it's sad, but true. Better off saying good try kid, but let's not hang you out to dry.

To try to contain Bock or Rutten and make them accountable.

Fair enough but I think that demonstrates a huge issue with forward line structure. Fancy having to play one of our key defenders on their key defenders.

Yep, said it before, say it again.

The worst off season move the RFC made, was to send Royal to the Forwardline and Campbell to the Midfield, as far as coaching is concerned.

Wasn't a great move

I have the same question, but will ask further.

for those that have watched him at Coburg, has he ever been used up forward there - If so how often and how has he gone.

I was stumped to see it, and heard a comment that they were hiding him there.

very interesting move.

Exactly.
It doesn't matter a stuff if we win another game or not this year.
The blade's got 8 weeks to give blokes a chance and each of them should get at least 4 weeks to show what they've got except the proven spuds like McMuffin who've had their go.
