Second round draft pick "way overs".
But apparently the market price, and given others sniffing around, our 3rd pick 45 ish perhaps wouldn't cut it.
And so onto whether he is "worth it".
The majority think not.
Richmond have a very clear need for a ruckman. And one ready to go in 2014.
Is he better than the big O? No question. And 5 years younger as well, so potential to be around for a while.
Is there someone better out there in state leagues? Possibly. But Hartley obviously thinks not.
I don't think he is the messiah but in tandem with Maric, could be effective.
And if he comes to Richmond will put pressure on Vickery to compete for his spot and lift his game, which is only a good thing.

No No No No! It's the end of the world as we know it!!!!!!!!! Or you could be right, how would I know!

Re: Shaun Hampson Done Deal

Here we go, this time the correct year, July 2013.

VFL
Carlton ruckman Shaun Hampson suffered what is feared to be a season-ending knee injury in the first term of the Northern Blues' 69-point loss to Essendon at Windy Hill on Sunday.
Hampson was assisted off the ground by trainers after landing awkwardly from an attempted tackle. He will have scans on Monday to determine the damage.
But the 25-year-old's career with the Blues remains at the crossroads after managing just six matches this season.

He has pretty good hands if I recall, can't say I have watched him that closely, if we do get him, hope it works out.

He can take a grab, moves well for a big man, seemed to play well against us the few times I can remember; kicked 3 goals I think in one game where he was on fire in a purple patch down the punt rd end one game. He is only 24 but is injury prone also. We must have big doubts on Maric groins/body. There will be many good players at pick 28, I could handle our 3rd pick but we've paid too much. Just hope we know we are getting another 2nd round pick as compo or trade from somewhere.

Blair and FJ are massively underating our 2nd round pick, I think we can now cross off Garlett, Apeness, Lobb, Marsh, Hourigan and a few of the mosquito fleet contenders in that range. A third rounder would be acceptable, pick 28 is way over the odds, silly move IMO.

Just madness. A third rounder would be line ball but this is a terrible move.

Straight swap for Nahas

That sounds fair.

We have no further need for Nahas.
They have no further need for Hampson.

Athough, Nahas has remained injury free.
Hampson appears to've had a season ending knee injury every year for the last 2 or 3 years.

Can you please provide examples of a graders "gotten " with 2 nd round picks, picks 30+

Should have expectations of obtaining an A grader or close to. B Grader definitely should be easy to identify if you have a half decent recruiting tream. We have pick 28, not 30+ and from the top of my head, Luke Parker from the Swans was taken around our pick I think.

Parker was in the forties, but a pick in this region usually delivers the goods, we knocked back 28 on the Schulz deal - missed out on Beams & Hannebury. I pray that history isn't about to repeat itself.

So far this off-season has been horrible, worst I can remember since Blair joined the den.

Just had a quick squizz at a few previous drafts. D.Beams pick 29, Hannebery pick 30, M.Duncan pick 28, Gunston pick 29, Luke Parker went at 40 (thought he went earlier) even more evidence you can find great players even later, B.Hill pick 33 are some examples in the last few years of players taken around our pick. All very good players, B+ to A graders for most of them. Yeah it's no certainty, but with our improved footy department & resources, you would think we have a good shot at identifying great talent.

Career at the crossroads - with the Blues as he is third ruckman, fourth if you include Casboult.
Surplus to their needs, so tradable.
We are short ruckman.
To me the only question about recruiting him (yes please) is what price.
Given our desperation, we need to be more aggressive that otherwise might be the case.
That's a result of failure over the years to get a decent ruckman into the club before Maric.
You have to pay the going price.
A second rounder is not ideal, but if that's the price, that's the price.
All those bemoaning the price need to answer whether a ruckman is a more pressing need than another mid fielder.
I think it is.

Re: Shaun Hampson Done Deal

By the time all the compo picks are allocated, our pick 28 currently may end up in the early or mid 30's ie 35ish

Re: Shaun Hampson Done Deal

Here we go again.

Every trade period some journo writes an article that suggest what we are going to use to trade for a player is excessive to what the posters on here think the price should be . Every trade period that has been wrong.

Honestly many on here need to stop believing what you read in the newspapers and here on the TV about details of deals. They are almost never right.

25; 26 in March. Has a leap, but Carlton supporters will tell you he doesn't clunk many.

Will reserve judgement until he pulls on the jumper. The club has earned the benefit of the doubt.

There's an awful lot of smoke & fire about this one, I can only hope that Carlton will take Nahas off our hands, but this would seem to be a pipe dream.
