It says on afl.com Hawthorn are making a play for him as well.
I don't rate him but if Blair Hartley and the Hawks recruiting team see something in him that's worth going for I'll take their word or it

Its not that he's a total spud, its at what price we're getting him for. He does have some upside mainly because of his athleticism, but a 2nd round pick is too much considering his kicking flaws & isnt the best contested mark either (although he does seem to play well against us, assing a few great grabs a few times he's played us). 4th rounder I would be ok, 3rd rounder disappointed but could just take it, 2nd disgraceful.

Re: Shaun Hampson Done Deal

bloody hell the sky has fallen in! What are the Tiges wooden spoon odds? Get on now.

Look on the bright side you guys...ready made scapegoat now that Luke has gone. ;D

On another note, I can't see Hampson fitting into Richmond's best 22. I rate Vickery much higher, and Maric has been excellent. Giving up a second rounder for a bloke built like a brick sh!thouse yet couldn't catch a cold, nor kick straight is a bit excessive. Be interesting to see how he goes.

This, and from a blues supporter as well.

Athletic, can jump & can mark.
I'm happy we are picking him up but 2nd rounder is steep considering you can still get an A grader which Hampson will never be

Thats exactly right, is athletic, can jump, etc but will never be an A Grader, something that good football departments & recruiting teams should be able to get with a 2nd round pick.

Re: Shaun Hampson Done Deal

Can Vickery, hampson and Maric be played in the same side? If not can't see why we are going after him. If it's for depth then you don't give up a second Rounder for depth. Hopefully some exchange of picks as part of the deal.

really?

Can you please provide examples of a graders "gotten " with 2 nd round picks, picks 30+

Re: Shaun Hampson Done Deal

Hardly a surprise , we are the kings of recruiting players from other clubs.

Its part of our culture.

Re: Shaun Hampson Done Deal

One of the oddest trades I can remember. Hampson, a B grader....if lucky. Pick 28? Staggered. He only plays well against 1 side....us! Can't take a contested mark, ordinary kick. Staggered.

Did I mention I'm staggered? This one will go down in the annals!

But all the best Shaun!

I'd hate to think success has gone to our recruiters heads with the success they've had with Houli, Grigg, Morris, Maric etc and now think every player sourced from another club is just going yo be a success?

And those guys were secured on the cheap, how ironic it would be that our most costly recruit also represents the least value on the field. I just hope the footage from Hampson's early season form is confiscated by Interpol, exhibit A for the prosecution could be particularly embarrassing.

Are we? I would have thought Sydney & Hawthorn are up there!

Sure but we would just about have recruited the most over the years i think..If not then close...
St Kilda would be up there too.

Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

trade period hasn't even started until tommorrow. How can it be a confirmed trade?

Guess it all comes down to the quality of the recruits then, Syd/Haw have done this very well & I believe we have as well.

Even if, or if I listen to the negative nellies on here when, Shaun fails at Tigerland I believe our recruiters still have plenty of credits up.

Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

I would imagine it might be more like Hampson and a third round pick for our second and fourth round picks. But who knows? Nothing is official yet.

Re: Shaun Hampson Done Deal

Second round draft pick "way overs".
But apparently the market price, and given others sniffing around, our 3rd pick 45 ish perhaps wouldn't cut it.
And so onto whether he is "worth it".
The majority think not.
Richmond have a very clear need for a ruckman. And one ready to go in 2014.
Is he better than the big O? No question. And 5 years younger as well, so potential to be around for a while.
Is there someone better out there in state leagues? Possibly. But Hartley obviously thinks not.
I don't think he is the messiah but in tandem with Maric, could be effective.
And if he comes to Richmond will put pressure on Vickery to compete for his spot and lift his game, which is only a good thing.

Stop sounding so reasonable ;D

Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

He has pretty good hands if I recall, can't say I have watched him that closely, if we do get him, hope it works out.
