Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

Just showed on ch 7 news that Hampson is a tiger & we'll be giving up our 2nd round pick, disgraceful. Why pay so high? Has massive flaws in his game and we're forgoing getting a very good footballer that we could get at the draft. If FJ and the rest of the recruiting staff have done their homework & identified this years crop of players thoroughly as they should, we surely should be able to get a player of better quality than Hampson with much longer service. Another short-sighted, quick fix approach. A third round pick at most I could just handle, we are paying way overs. Really disappointed.

If that's correct, I hope it's been confirmed we receive a 2nd rounder as compo for Matt White and still retain a 2nd rounder for ourselves. Doubt it though
What happened to "no short cuts" and "good skills"? Fallen by the wayside or this must be a pig of a draft.

Looked pretty confirmed on the news, stating the pick given and showing him in our jumper. Won't be slashing the wrists over it, just angry/disappointed that we're not making every post a winner, being meticulous and professional with our drafting/picks. This is lazy by the football department and selling us short; its like a near enough's good enough mentality. Im hoping this isnt a done deal for that pick but it looks like that is the case.

I agree. Hampson has done nothing to warrant him being worth such a high pick. Crazy talk. Let's hope it is just a silly rumour as most never eventuate.

Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

Maric's fitness, Vickery not showing enough and the imminent departure of Derickx (and probably Stephenson) has forced our hand.

Not miles in front. No contest. Tigers won it easily. Been saying that for a long time.

Come on BB, that trade was like Dangerfield vs Hudson in the Grand Final sprint, just ask Zips.....lol

By the way, Hampson to us is not anywhere near over the line, Bulldogs are also sniffing about.

Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

Blair and FJ are massively underating our 2nd round pick, I think we can now cross off Garlett, Apeness, Lobb, Marsh, Hourigan and a few of the mosquito fleet contenders in that range. A third rounder would be acceptable, pick 28 is way over the odds, silly move IMO.

I'm hoping that we know we're getting a second rounder for one of our other trades or compo. Otherwise I can't see us using our first in a trade too.

I also hope Blair continues to impress us with his undervalued player spotting

Even if we are getting another second round pick (combined compo for white & mcguane or other trade), still no need to pay that high. Why not instead use those two 2nd round picks to get 2 great youngsters at the draft, if indeed we do know we'll be having two 2nd round picks. Yeah 'this draft is really thin' like they trot out every year; just a cop out by the recruiters to not back themselves to identify the good young talent that is out there.

Re: Shaun Hampson Done Deal

There's players like Shaw, shuey, silivia & Adams to snag
And what do we do? Pick up Hampson
Devastated!!!

Yes I was thinking this also is probably the clubs thinking for giving up this pick; still not right though. Second round selections are nearly gold, with the competion becoming so hard, the difference between being an average side and a great one with talented depth, is nailing these picks with quality, not settling for an athletic average player who yeah, has some good attributes, but ultimately not good enough to warrant giving up a 2nd round selection.

Re: Shaun Hampson Done Deal

Athletic, can jump & can mark.
I'm happy we are picking him up but 2nd rounder is steep considering you can still get an A grader which Hampson will never be

I think I agree with you zippy. I would not be happy to pick up this player for a second round pick. Hope we are still trying for Adams but it looks unlikely he will choose us. Shaw may be ok as he wants to stay in Melb they said on the news but he may cost too much.

Hope we do better than Hampson. Very underwhelming.

Re: Shaun Hampson Done Deal

3 years in a row Hampson's season is ended by a knee injury.

2011 Hampson hurts his knee in round 13, expected to miss about 6 weeks, doesn't play seniors again for the rest of the year, not sure if he got back to play any VFL games.

2012 does his knee in round 15. season over.

2013 plays round 7, then goes back to VFL, does his knee again, season over.

Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

Should of been a 3rd round unless we have another 2nd rounder on the way?

Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

stupid move Richmond , geez i thought we had learnt from past years making stupid trades

Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

I'd hate to think success has gone to our recruiters heads with the success they've had with Houli, Grigg, Morris, Maric etc and now think every player sourced from another club is just going yo be a success?
