Agree & would love Grundy at the club, but a big fan of Flossy as well...

I think the club had hoped that in 3-4 years, once Maric's body is shot, a bloke by the name of Vickery will have filled out properly through the body & he may be able to start imposing himself as a no.1 ruckman. A worrying thought

a player is out of form so all hope is gone for his entire career? amazing

One thing I have really noticed with Hampson, and it really irritates me is how often he actually gets in the way of his teammates in general play. Seems to lack general awareness. The Brisbane game especially he frustrated me in this regard. Appreciate his willingness to get to a context but needs to be aware of who us around him amd who is in a better position.

And the dropped marks, grrrrrrrr.

The person who is making these decisions to chase these 2nd hand lemons needs to go.
Plan & simple

Can someone tell me why Derrickz was picked up by a premiership side and is showing good form and why we flicked him and picked up this superspud Hampson. When he's not rucking he should be on the bench as he's an absolute liability around the ground.

Terrible decision to recruit him!

Just for those who are questiong our decision to pick up an able bodied ruckman, I'm wondering what other alternatives there were? It was no secret to all and sundry that I was advocating Grundy last year and now the chickens have come home to roost. Nothing against Flossy because he's a guaranteed 200 gamer but on a needs basis, I'm not so sure he was exactly the type that we were screaming out for.

We were singing from the same page on that. Still baffles me how he got to Collingwood at the pick.

This is a reasonable side bar discussion. How much worse would Tommy D be and we would have our second round pick.

Not really sure he's showing "good form"

I think its fair to say I was beating a Djembe annoyingly in the back of that wagon Bully. Grundy's Anzac game was nothing short of incredible IMO. At 19?, he beat Paddy Ryder in every aspect of the game.

He is the next big ruck thing for sure. having said that, Flossy has kahunas of rare size and fortitude. Be very hard to see him in another jumper. A shining light at tigerland in a difficult time. Could easy turn out the next Mark Ruccuito.

How are Sydney travelling?

Better than us in so many ways and they know how to turn discards into stars.

Let's come back to this at the end of the season and compare then who's travelling better.

He's still a spud, it won't be long before he's replaced by Nankervis, there will be no regrets in letting go of Derickx.

Same here. The guy didn't debut until he was 24 and showed exactly why when he played. He looked like the first time he'd ever picked up a football was five minutes before the game.

Thick about it, Hampson it's ruck or bench. And when Maric is available and Vickery finds some form (or what passes for him as form), the reserves. And this is what we gave up a second round pick for? Makes the Jordan McHahon deal almost look good in comparison.

Oh dear, this competitive hyperbole is really getting out of hand now.

Hampsons pick was 32 - George Hewlett or possibly someone around that mark. We'll watch how he goes but if we didn't have Hampson right now - our current state would be a whole lot uglier. I suspect the club knew Maric had a problem prior to this trade so I don't know why it took him so long to go for surgery
George Hewlett might end up nearly as good as Matt Dea or twice as good as Ablett. If it's the latter then the clubs player assessment needs to be reviewed

This surprised me too as Ivvy could have had the surgery at least 4-6 weeks before they mad the final call !

I'm not sure Hampson is fully fit at the moment.

I was surprised he didn't dominate the Collingwood rucks when he came back from the knee, and since the knee he is doing nothing around the ground.

Having said that, i shudder every time we move the ball, and the passage of play goes through Hampson, because that's more often than not where it ends. Not only is he not holding marks, but he's fumbling handball receives and by the time he has control of the ball the whole attacking move is lost or under severe pressure.

Hampson is simply insurance for Maric getting injured (ie now)or giving him the occasional rest throughout the season...

Recruit to play forward as well.
Can't see him taking a mark any time soon.

Last year Hampson was ranked 40 in the league for average hitouts per game.
of the guys who averaged more, 1 (Pyke) averaged more contested marks, and 3 ( McEvoy, Jolly and Cox) averaged more marks. none averaged more marks I50 per game (he was ranked 31 in the league).

he aint no superstar but last year he wasnt a terrible mark (admittedly from a small sample). he figures from the year before were similar.
this year before injury he averaged 13.5 disposals. since injury 6.

against the pies, and particularly the lions he stank around the ground but his ruckwork was good.
against the hawks i thought he stank around the ground, and his ruckwork was no better.

i doubt they will drop him this week, but he would want to start to improve to hold his place.
