Griffiths at least shows something.

Wondering if we should just persevere with Griff and Vickery till Maric gets back. At least these guys can mark.
We may as well bring Vickery and play him primarily ruck. It may even be the making of him. Just throw him to the wolves so to speak. He would at least take the odd mark. Hampson is just painful to watch.

Time to make Plasma n the Griffinator the rotating ruck forward combination until the big Eevan gets his new wheels fitted n balanced.
Hamster to play magoos until he learns how to play football, simply being tall n tapping the footy in the general direction of some smaller players is not being a footballer.
How the hell this Pelican got nicked the Hammer is beyond credibility.

Averaging 1.4 marks per game. Outstanding.

This is the biggest issue for me. Basically a more athletic Warnock, a hitout specialist not a true ruckman. Can't mark and his efforts at ground level are valiant but often fumbly. I'd be very tempted to send him to the 2s when Maric is ready, even if it means recalling Vickery or playing Elton.

We all hoped that he would prove us wrong justifying his second round pick
But once again we have butchered early picks on
Duds.

Fair call, it's certainly one part of his game that needs improving. In saying that, it's pretty rare to get the complete package these days. For a second rounder I think we got a bargain basement ruckman who's also handy at ground level. There wouldn't be too many others who tick all three boxes, Cox & Nic Nat maybe the only one's who can lay claim to being complete footballers.

You are a pretty staunch Hampson defender bullus - is his ruckwork enough to keep getting him games? His ground level game was pretty non-existent yesterday. McEvoy towelled him up in the ruck and at ground level.

Think we need to consider using Vickery/Griffiths as the ruck options.

I think is even rather big O. That's how bad Hampson is.

Big O can at least take a mark or two and might get involved in a chain of play and not stuff it up in the process through shreer lack of any coordination and clumsiness. Hell, get Vickery in. Someone else.

Orren is definitely the better of the two at this stage. Hampson is just terrible.
Has butter fingers and is at best an average tap ruck.

I know Supercoach is not a great guide....but how the hell does this spud consistently score well and/or score higher than Griffiths who is actually having effective disposals???

If we had a midfield worth a pinch of salt he would be going ok with tap to advantage work but they are badly out of form and Hampson will never be better than what he is now. It is what it is.

Do you honestly think Stephenson would be any better?

At the moment we are playing with someone as bad as Trent knoble, Ben Marsh & graham all rolled into one.
The day we picked him up, i knew that it was a rushed and desperate trade.
He has plastic hands

I still think he's worth persevering with, he was ordinary yesterday but has had a decent start to his career as a ruckman. People need to realise that he's still in a learning phase and will take a bit of time. A ruckman's form can fluctuate wildly, I see McEvoy is the flavour of the month on here but he was truly dreadful last year, it was no surprise to see him being shipped on by St Kilda. Sam Jacobs is another who had a rotten year in 2013 but has returned to form in 2014.

The criticism of Hampson whilst justified to a degree, still ignores the fact that he has the second highest tap to advantage ratio in the AFL. His marking has been ordinary but is nowhere near as bad as what has been displayed over the past fortnight. Hampson can and will lift in due course, I've seen his performances against Richmond over the years to know that he has another level in his gear box. Patience is required, given our threadbare ruck stocks Hampson's arrival was not a luxury but a necessity.

There's players like Shaw, shuey, silivia & Adams to snag
And what do we do? Pick up Hampson
Devastated!!!

Why can a bloke's in the outer see it, but the blokes that get PAID don't
Stupid decision then even worse today.
A ruckman that dosent mark, is like a full forward without legs.
But what do I know, this is the Richmond football club I'm talking about.

Good post, Hampson was also brought in to take the heat of Maric but has had to take over the no.1 role with maric out, we wont know his true worth until both Hampson and Maric are together, I remember a lot of posters when we got Hampson were licking their lips at the prospect of either ruckman resting up forward when the other was doing the ruck duties.

We really can make an overall assessment on the return of maric huge piece missing and he will take 4 weeks of match practice to get the pace of the game dont expect miracles straight away.

So when he is finally starts taking the heat off Maric and is not the number one ruck, what we suppose to do with him then? He barely gets a possession, can't kick, can't take a mark to save his life and is basically utterly useless away from a tapping contest. The tragedy is we are seeing his true worth in the here and now. He'll never be more valuable for us and less of a liability than he is at present. At least whilst he's no. 1 following the game there is his tapping (for what it's worth). Diminish or reduce that and there is nothing left except liabilities. Rest Hampson and his non-existent skill set up forward and you'll only help stuff up Jack or Griffiths or anyone else unfortunate enough to be around him.

And for what it's worth I remember a hell of a lot more posters saying that he was a dud and that giving up a round two draft pick for him was effectively flushing it down the toilet. And guess what, they were right!

Bully, you can't even put Hampson in the same class as Jacobs or McEvoy. The form they showed prior to there form slumps was far and away better then anything Hampson has ever shown. I would take the form slump years from both those guys over what Hampson is putting out.

yeah Mcevoy was good last year. has been very consistent from the word go.

Way too early to call, you simply can't run a line through his name because he had a couple of down matches. He was good against Carlton & GC, picking up 13 & 14 touches to go with his excellent ruck work. He had a bad day against Hawthorn, no need to for a curtain call on his career when the whole team were lack lustre. I'm not sure why people are questioning giving up a second rounder when we only have Stephenson in reserve, seems to me a case of cutting one's nose off to spite their face.

Why don't we just roll a potato out on the field next week.
At least we can make some chips.
