Then why give away a pick for him

Agree with you, Zips. I am starting to see that RFC were worried that it didn't have any back-up to a flagging Maric (and probably weren't banking on Griffiths stepping-up as he has). Hence the desire to secure Hampson early in the trade period and then they basically crawled back into their shells.
Like you, I do believe the Club will come to rue this decision to commit to a three-year contract for a ruckman who can get some tap outs yet provides virtually nothing else in any other basic aspect of the game.

l cant believe we passed on second round pick.

It's pathetic isn't it? What other club would sacrifice a second round pick for a strictly depth player, that has been in the system for half a dozen years, that can't mark, can't kick and can't hand pass. Moreover a player who is so injury prone that we also had to elevate another recycle in Stephenson at the expense of a promising young player in Miles as added insurance. A trade that Terry Wallace would be proud of. They must still be laughing their heads off at Princess Park about this one. What a joke.

Do you honestly think Stephenson would be any better?

It's like choosing between the electric chair and the firing squad.

They are both hopeless but only one of them cost us a second round pick. And at least the one who didn't cost us a second round pick can actually take a *smile* mark!!

But the real issue is our insistence in recruiting hacks from other clubs that have exposed form that shows they are not up to the task. And surprise surprise Hampson has certainly done nothing to debunk that in his first 5 games.

I still can't believe we would target a ruckman who can't take a mark. Beggars belief. Only at Richmond.

Yes, and even Derrickz for that matter!

Before now I thought Derrickx was the worst ruckman I had ever seen. After 6 rounds of this year I am thinking we just should have kept him and our pick 32.

Hampson may give a few more dodgy hitouts than Derrickx but he gives nothing more, probably less, around the ground and he is nowhere near worth the price we paid.

I saw Hale scoop up the ball twice at speed like a rover today, he absolutely blitzed Hampson, McEvoy too.

Griffiths at least shows something.

Wondering if we should just persevere with Griff and Vickery till Maric gets back. At least these guys can mark.

As much as I have been advocating for Vickery to have a decent spell in the VFL, I am starting to think, after viewing his performance today, that Hampson perhaps should be dropped and the ruck duties, until Maric's eventual return, be shared between Griffiths and Vickery. Griffiths is having a crack and making some contributions worthy of continuing selection. Maybe chucking Vickery into the ruck and demanding that he exert himself on contests around the ground might ignite him into better performances. At the moment, Hampson getting first hand on ball at some rucking contests just isn't sufficient when he offers so little else in pretty much every other facet of the game.

Hampson, didn't have a good today but has been very good. May need a rest from a heavy ruck load or more likely is still injured. Vickery is quality and should not have been dropped, 30 goals last year as second ruck coming off two shoulder recos. He was a scapegoat for our poor start, today showed our slow start had nothing to do with Ty.

Hampson has Derrickx covered....statistically speaking.

But statistically speaking, career wise, even Stephenson has Hampson covered.

Yep is acceptable has a tap ruckman.

But turns into a cardboard cutout around the ground

Perhaps the cutout would get more possesions , but 2-5 touches is
#&##& :blah :rofl

Probably our worst trade since McMahon.

Looking that way, wasnt happy we gave up pic 32 but once it was done i supported him, looks good with his tap work but thats it, does nothing around the ground, does not impact contests, does not give us a get out of jail option when a player kicks from the back line to the wings as his hands surely are laced with butter, just cannot take a grab to save himself....Also fumbles never takes the ball cleanly...
Im calling it now its over for hampson 6 rounds in and ive seen what he can do and all he can do is tap work....Waste of a 2nd rounder :-[

Is he worse than Richard Lounder? At least Lounder took a mark although he was glacier slow.

Doubt it mate. Richard drank VB in bed, I doubt Megan would let him do that.

elevatin oren for one game when they probably knew ivan was
gonna be out for the most part of season he should have been put
on LTIL and elevate miles and oren.

I'm Not sure Hammo keeps his senior spot when Maric returns

Maric rucks
Full fwd Riewoldt
1 or 2 of Hampson Vickery Griffo in the fwd line

Back line
Astbury and Rance
1 of Grimes or Chaplin

I have made up my mind Hampson is a dud. I can see why the Scum supporters were pissing themselves laughing. It was equivalent to when steve mckee went from us to Collingwood.
