So what if the Hawks got "Big Boy" McEvoy
We got "Big Girl" Meagan

RFC setting new standards on and off the field. First AFL female Club President, a new female Director, now an very well known media magnet player partner. I've got every confidence RFC will attract even more female supporters and make the 70k membership target a breeze.

Move aside Magpies...... the mighty Tigers are coming to take over your mantle as the biggest AFL club.

Don't forget Merkin Ralph

Yeah 17, I'm definitely starting to see some method behind the madness. Losing a high pick isn't ideal but as you suggest, he's perfect for our structure - more so than either McEvoy & Longer. If he can start to clunk a few more grabs and play within his limitations on the kicking front, I believe he can become a valuable contributor and provide a bit of flexibility. Potentially having Vickery, Hampson, Riewoldt & McBean all playing together will be nightmarish for opposition coaches, and all these guys are mobile types as well.

Now we need to focus on snaring a 40 goal crumbing forward.

I also reckon Hartley and the club have done very well to recruit two reasonable ruckmen in two years for pick 37 (Maric) and a pick which will likely end up in the low 30's (Hampson).
That's a quality outcome for two mature, ready to go ruckmen, at a modest cost.
Other clubs have given away first round draft picks to get ruckmen, and immature one's at that.
I think our recent approach is living proof that you can source cheap affective alternatives that are mature and ready to go, whilst keeping your powder dry for quality mid fielders.
I know which alternative I prefer.
We shouldn't forget that two years ago Angus Graham was our sole future ruck resource.
You are spot on re a 40 goal crumbing forward - Eddie would have been perfect but he priced himself out of our reach.

*edit* look I hope I'm wrong but I think I'm in the minority who doesn't rate Hampson's arial ability. I see a top heavy athlete who doesn't read the ball well in flight. He only takes a contested grab when he gets on the train tacks a mile out and the ball has no choice but to go to him.

kinda agree. don't be fooled with his games against griffiths and post as a forward. the main thing going for him is his ruck work and his hit out to advantage. should be full time ruck and hopefully he can give us first use, and nullify the times we get smashed in the ruck

Yeah I reckon he will get a lot of game time when playing the taller rucks or of course when Maric is injured

May get 15 home and away games each = 30 games, playing in tandem 8 times

who is going to ruck the other 3 games?

Is this the longest thread for a Richmond listed player who had yet to play his first game for the club?

The Brad Miller Rookie thread says hello.

Far out in Blair we trust in the end of the day.....cant fault him picking to fill a need on the list.

I dont understand the 180 degree mood swing regarding hampson with a 1 round round split.

Hampson for 3rd rounder = trade feels good all round
hampson for 2nd rounder = outraged paid super overs for a player Carton rate 3rd string ruck.

Don't agree, even fringe rucks are expensive, he's only 25, round and round it goes, blah blah.

Everybody wants their team to get a good deal/bargain or worst case breakeven trade
I personally rated Hampson at about #40-#45 range

so i think that we have overpaid and would of been delighted with a 3rd rounder
but if we get a end of 2nd rounder for white (unlikely) it would feel fair swap white/hampson

Agree. Like it or not, AFL players are a commodity, and to use a housing analogy, Ruckmen are big corner blocks in the inner city. That is, rare, full of potential and take time to develop. Like snake says, given the price of ruckmen (never more evident than recieving a 10 pick upgrade for Graham) then The Velvet Hammer for 28 seems about right to me. Try phoning a real estate agent and telling him you want a double block with a renovator in Northcote for the price of a flat in Bacchus Marsh. Not even Collingwood could pull off a deal like that.

back on The Velvet Hammer ..... I prefer a Mike Pike comparison at this stage. The same size and type, but TVH is about 3 years ahead in development from what I can tell.

Needless to say, Im happy with this pick, even if Carlton pick the next glen jackovitch at 28 and TVH thread goes to a million pages.

But on first appearances Carlton sold a Bacchus Marsh flat for the price of a double block renovator in Northcote.

Like i said, its a commodities market. Only time will reveal true value. At this stage, Im hopeful we landed a Harry Siedler Beach Mansion at Lorne at the Northcote renovator price . But hey, I am an optimist.

Reminds me of a joke I heard the other day that made me chuckle. The Pessimist said to The Optimist "I dont reckon my day could possibly get any worse". The Optimist replied "I reckon it can"

The optimist in me laughed at that - The pessimist in me cried.
