What would be interesting would to know who FJ/BH would've picked at 32 on draft day then compare that player with Hampson over their careers. But I guess we,ll never know.......

Agreed Sin. But the fact our offer was unusually agreed on the first day of trade suggests it was a more than generous offer.

Think we would always have to give up our 2nd pick, but Carlton needed calary cap room for Daisy & Shaun were on a fair wack. Not sure we held their balls swinging enough on this.

At very worst we hold off for two weeks & get Carltons 3rd round pick come back our way ILO.

And what happens Leysy if another club gets wind of the deal and we either miss out or have to pay more? Then we are stuck.

Hampson is with us to do something Maric can't unfortunately and that's jump at a ruck contest, I'd suggest Hampson will do the majority of centre bounces and help Maric prolong his career and to buy some time so others can develop. The Bus couldn't jump - GONE, Browne couldn't jump -GONE and to think we trade Gus and get Hampson 12 months later for basically the same, I'd say its a Simon ( Good - win)....... :hihi

Yes. The price was probably too high.

Getting Carlton's 3rd pick would have elevated our 2nd and 3rd picks from 50 and 68 to 49 and 50. Effectively upgrading pick 68 to 49 and every other pick by one round.

Worthwhile but not game changing

Well, so far he's the best player we halved nabbed in the trade period

Shaun & Megan flew into Melbourne today at 9.30am - Expect to see him in a Richmond jumper on the website this week sometime

Great news..

He will be alright.

Maric wanted him to come over so that's enough endorsement from me.

Looks like he knows exactly where his deficiencies are and aims to improve them.

You can't beat a big tall when the game gets long in the tooth and we need someone who can stick out their paws and outmark someone aka the Bean.

Will be very useful as a pinch hitting ruck man and forward.

Just makes the team ooze depth.

The old 'don't appear too keen' approach can backfire you know. It has for me. Carlton MIGHT have taken a lower pick (don't think so myself), but another side might well have swooped. Things change quick. Sides who hadn't considered Hampson might have cast an eye in his direction once he was available. I think we played it well. Why stuff around? We wanted him and were willing to pay pick 28. Quick and clean, get in get out.

I agree TS. We got what (who) we wanted. Mission achieved.

2 years ago we got Maric. He filled a need that we had. Improved results followed. Most people achnowledge that Maric was part of the reason for the improvement.
1 year ago we got Chaplin. He filled a need that we had. Improved results followed. Most people achnowledge that Chaplin was part of the reason for the improvement.
This year we got Hampson. If he plays well, he will fill a need that we have. Obviously we need to see if we have improved results followed and how much of a part Hampson plays in any improvement. Personally, I think that he has the required skill set but does need to improve on a few things - something that he acknowledges. I am quite optimistic that this will be another sound recruitment.

Great posting. :clap

I just hope you are right.

If the Chaplin and Maric experience are any indication he will be massive
Anyway look at the clubs recent history

Grigg and Houli A Edwards Maric Morris knights Chaplin Hampson
They all cost us a player we could have had
Overall it's been great value for a couple of picks in the 30's

More interested in our pick 12 than Hampster. Another Ellis? Another Vlas? Yes please thank you.

The other side is interesting as well.
We targeted Tyson last year. The deal didn't go through but GWS made the move and this year he has gone to Melbourne for pick 2.
We targeted Adams early this year. It became a bidding war between Collingwood, Geelong and others and his wage went skywards out of our reach.

Had a squiz at the rd1 game today too have a better look at Hampson , the one thing I was pleased too see was the way he went hard back into a pack, was good to see an I hope he attacks marking contests with that sought of vigour in his time at Punt rd...In Blair we trust

there's absolutely nothing wrong with his desire for the contest, he'll put in 100% every week. It's his kicking that I hope he can sort out, a return to 2012 form will see Blair's decision well and truly vindicated.

Yeah I think we'll get Dom next year for pick 33

News Flash: Megan Gale is pregnant.

At lest we know he is kicking goals in that department.
