Reminds me of a joke I heard the other day that made me chuckle. The Pessimist said to The Optimist "I dont reckon my day could possibly get any worse". The Optimist replied "I reckon it can"

:hihi

RFC, please give back my pick 2?

I don't want to look back at this draft/trade period and think the sum total was a maybe ok player with our first round pick, and Shaun Hampson.

Then look at like we've got a good tap ruckman with good hands & future 250 game star with our first round pick! ;)

I guess we,'' just have to come back and look at this thread after Hampson and McEvoy end their careers to determine if we would've been better off with McEvoy.

No, no, no! It's much more fun using our crystal balls & dark side-bright side bias! ;D

I'm happy to do that too!

So what do people without bias, like me, do ?

Sit on the fence & argue with everyone! :)

OK, that requires no change in persona

Just make stuff up like the rest of us do. You don't need a bias to do that.

Another no brainer. Business as usual it is

Now the pick has drifted out to pick 32 it looks pretty reasonable.
a late 20's compared to early 30's pick seems to looks a lot better for Hampson

Maybe this was why we were so keen to get the deal done early, and there could be even more shuffling down the order if any other free agents decide to do a runner.

Correction, deadline was 2pm today. Nevertheless, I think pick 32 is only marginally under fair value, I feel much better about this trade now.

Maric was a 30s pick too, BH knew 28 would slide. Seems fair enough, especially if Carlton were savvy enough to point out that our third rounder would slide too far to be viable.

Good call. Still I'd like another pick extracted from somewhere.

it seems like a high price and probably is but there were 2 parts to the decision
1. Do we need another ruckman ? Answer yes and a developed one
2. Who is available ?

McEvoy - we had nothing to trade , would have cost our 1st rounder
Longer- most likely would not have go for 2nd rounder and is a way off
Mumford- $700 k a season
Bellchambers- would have cost a lot in trade and in salary, stayed anyway.
Jolly- finished probably

Once we decided Hampson was the one there was no way we would have got a contracted ruckman like him for a 3rd rounder, even though that is probably what he is worth.

Its a judgement call. Some agree some don't but we shouldn't pretend that the alternatives were simple

Agreed Sin. But the fact our offer was unusually agreed on the first day of trade suggests it was a more than generous offer.

Think we would always have to give up our 2nd pick, but Carlton needed calary cap room for Daisy & Shaun were on a fair wack. Not sure we held their balls swinging enough on this.

At very worst we hold off for two weeks & get Carltons 3rd round pick come back our way ILO.
