No mention of Derrickx. You'd think he would be delisted; he's not even close to AFL standard.

To be fair to Derickx, I think we grabbed him in the belief that the sub rule was going to make it difficult for teams to play two genuine ruckmen.

Derickx was an average ruck at WAFL level as well. But he is very athletic for a man his size. I think the feeling was at the time that we needed a second ruck option who was also a good athlete to give us options.

We were not the only team to think along these lines, but as it has turned out, I think most teams have realised you can still play two genuine ruckmen even if they both aren't overly good up forward or down back. And that left us with an undersized athletic ruckman who was too big and unweidly to play KP.

But big Tom isn't what we need now anyway, so I can't see us retaining him.

if we get the same mileage out of Hampson as we have got out of Grigg, Houli, Maric etc etc the fat Tiger lady will not be singing but laughing all the way to the bank.

Any chance Tom had of staying on the list (which was zero!) went out the window when we got Hampson.

I think you have done really well, has had a couple of injuries that has stopped him in his tracks a few times and I am disappointed to lose him for that pick. IF you can keep him on the park and if you can fix his kicking he could be a tower of strength. Also I know you don't have the small forwards, but if you improve there, Hampson gets his hands to everything even if he doesn't clunk it, this gives a big advantage to the smalls.

Honestly is worth a lot more than pick 28 and I would not mind betting this time next year if you run a thread on whether or not you payed overs or got him for unders (if he doesn't do a knee or something), I wouldn't mind betting most will then agree you got him at a bargain price.

So because I post a few things on an internet forum that you do not agree with my life sucks????? :rofl

I personally don't know anything about your life BT, but just in case: http://www.beyondblue.org.au/
;D

With Vickery a permanent forward can we rotate Maric & Hampson on the interchange if so don't think Azza Edwards can also play forward makes us top heavy thoughts?

If we were to play both Maric and Hampson rotating through the bench wouldn't that hamper our midfield rotations?

SO because I and some others have an opinion that is not all rosey and following the club line we are "experts" what if we are right are we allowed to come back and demand those who are wrong face up and admit it as no doubt we will be called upon to do so if he is a success.

Maybe in future we should all just say the club is doing a wonderful job and not have a differing opinion. ::)

Threatening to revoke all the memberships in your family over one fairly minor trade is what gets peoples attention!
And some others are wailing that we are back to the Frawley/Wallace eras over this same trade!

The club has done a good job recently I would have thought also.

Differing opinions are all well & good, hysterical overreactions are disturbing.

That's what I thought to top heavy unless Ty does all the ruck work in the 50 arc then Maric & Hampson can always play a kick behind the play. Still I think it stops us playing another runner & how does McBean fit into the side?

Re: shaun ampson threads [merged]

I feel the hammer is a confidence player who when is up isnt that bad yes he has weaknesses we all do but i think with a change of scenariy and getting more development i think he will do his role and feed the ball down the throats of our mids as for price going rate seems to be the norm poach a ruck from another club wen developed yes longer was available but his not ready yet ewe had a gap and hamer fills it quicker plus why give away a first rounder on an unproven kid we have mcbean

Fair points. Feel we may not always play all 3, more of horses for courses type selections.
Plus Ivan will need some rest management through the season (groins)
May just bring out the best in Ty!
McBean can play anywhere don't you know! ;)

So we got hampson...fine whatever..now can we please go and get garlett...

Yes this old chestnut again. Just because I think the level of indignation is over the top I think you can't have an opinion. That's just nonsense.

We all have opinions and if you read my post you would see mine, I was surprised we used a 2nd round pick on Hampson.

It's the tone of the posting that is ridiculous. Trading and drafting is not sitting in front of a computer playing supercoach. Clubs have to deal with salary caps, agents, players and other clubs' expectations. It's the posting that indicates that it is all easy that I get tired of. This group of recruiters has got a lot right over the past 3 years. Every draft period they have ended up with some good role players and additions from other clubs and at the same time improving our draft position. My initial thought is that they have overpaid on this one but let's see how it all pans out in 2-3 weeks time and in 2014 when Shaun Hampson actually plays.

Giving a group who has delivered in the past the benefit of the doubt is not seeing everything as rosy, it is just taking a balanced view recognising that they may get some wrong from time to time but history tells us that they tend to get more right than wrong.

thanks mate. it's good to read an opinion from an opposotion supporter perspective.

Well this time next year we will know whether another good pick up or a dumb choice. let us wait and hope its the former.

Seems to me Richmond could've been a bit more creative with what we gave Carlton. His manager affirmed that no one other than Richmond were interested in Hampson, yet we immediately cough up our second pick.

Carlton were probably keen to get him off their books given how many other ruckmen they have ahead of him.

Certainly not one of the better trades we've made in recent times. Just hope he can make himself useful. Nice athletecism but he'll need to improve his marking.

Hard to see where Griff fits in now, a week after he is given a new contract.

Yes it will be interesting for Griff but I think we have a different plan for Hampson. What I will look forward to is a coordinated/athletic ruckman who has good size. Downside is his kicking and his marking he just doesnt hold them but neither did Rance for a few years so hopefully the coaches can teach him although he is 26yo - too set in his ways ?
