Hampson is good insurance in '18

CCJ, Balta, Miller etc. will all need a while, Soldo is not there yet but should be close next year. After next year though Hampson probably does make way. He is a decent back-up to have though for at least one more year.

His contract allowed us to delist Vickery & ironically Hampson probably played his part when it came to our drafting of him...

Did we delist Vickery?

Has this year taught us nothing about the value of talls without below the knee, pressure, clearance or around the ground skills.

in the interests of all our sanity please do not say anything that could be perceived as being negative about Hampson.

I’m waiting for him......

Currently i have next years departures as

Hampson
Lloyd
Miles
Conca
Drummond

Could probably add Grifins to that list with a couple more concussions he'll be done.

Moore also will be on his last season as a rookie will need to step it up to be upgraded.

Chol the same, hes unlikely to make it imo.

I would have thought that if Conca could remain injury free for more than a few minutes and reproduce 2017 early season form then he would be a keeper

Its harsh, but we won a granny with 1 mobile ruck. Even if Nank was injured, id rather Grigg or anyone else take the duties, and give us another free player, than waste a position with Hamp's "potential" contribution.

I doubt we'd get away with Grigg as out primary ruckman.

It appears that some commentators elsewhere are putting up Hampson as number one ruck for 2018 and having Nanks as a forward now no Griff. For me that would be a serious backward step as Nanks is so agile he can and does rove hit outs, for a big man fast over the turf, a good pair of marking hands and good below knee level whereas Hampson is big and can tap ruck although not too often to advantage but is poor at marking, getting anything below knee level and can only lumber around the field. We have proved that our forward structure works OK with Dusty, Towner and Caddy getting involved with the main forwards so we probably just need a little tweaking but do not need two fulltime talls in our structure

It was bizarre to read. The AFLs worst ruckman is going to push premiership ruckman Nankervis out of his role as first ruck...yeah, ok....makes sense...cos 2018 is going to be Hampys breakout season.

He’s not going to be an injury prone crock, he’s gunna start taking contested marks, he’s gunna kick goals, he’s gunna tackle hard.....

i don't think its bizarre at all. The Nank is mobile but is not a tap ruckman. I reckon he's a lot like Ivan tbh. I have bagged Hammer more than most over the years, but one thing he can provide is a better than even contest at stoppages. So in the off chance both play in the same team (which I think is a good chance at times during the season), you would have to play Hammer at the stoppages ahead of the Nank.

I understand but the game has well and truly gone past having a player on the field who's a 1-trick-pony ( HOTA) then just becomes a liability.
